    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: roncar1622 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/7774.185/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, Michael! I can't get my Thompson ancestors to the East Coast because I'm stymied in Kentucky. My maternal gg grandfather is William Reeves Thompson (9 Jun 1805-23 Aug 1877). He was born in Green County, Kentucky, and died in Bourbois Township, Gasconade County, Missouri. He was the third of four sons born to Unknown and Unknown. Moses and Israel Thompson were born in 1804; one record that I saw has Israel being born in 1807. I've found more 1804 records than 1807. William was born in 1805. Sixteen years later, Johnathan Thompson is born in 1821. When I ran Johnathan through rootsweb.com, I found a note that related that Johnathan was also Tahnattan and was believed to have been called this by his mother, a native American. I've assumed that the mother of the first three Thompson boys had passed away, but I no proof to substantiate that assumption. This further confused the pinning down who were the parents. All four Thompson men show up in Gasconade County, Bourbois Township in! 1836 because there is a record of William marrying Martha Moman (born 1821 in Virginia). The following year Johnathan marries Mary Rogers; he was sixteen and she was fifteen. Moses and Israel also married, raised families, died and were buried in Missouri. Would you have any earthly idea how to break through this brickwall? I've sourced my paternal side of my ancestry all the way back to St. Jean, Clermont, France, in 1615, but my maternal side is stuck in 1805. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 1. [THOMPSON] My Thompson Family in Georgia
    2. Penny Hawkins
    3. Hello List: It has been a while since I posted my Thompson line to the List but I have faithfully read each post hoping to connect with someone researching my line. As is the case with many of our Thompsons, my line is hard to research; I have reached a monumental brick wall. It is my belief they came to America from Ireland. I have in my mind that my mother said her father had a brother who was born on ship and, therefore, was called "The man without a country," by the family. Also, my mother had Irish features and all her songs were Irish. So a small sketch-- My mother was Ruth Thompson, b. 24 Dec 1891, Lindale, Georgia, d 16 Jan 1966, Plainview, Hale County, Texas. She married William Honest Sisemore, b 01 Apr 1895, Walker County, Georgia, d 05 Aug 1953, Amherst, Lamb County, Texas on 20 Sep 1916, LaFayette, Walker Co., GA. Her father was: John William Thompson, b 29 Jun 1840, Gilmer County, Georgia, d 27 Apr 1923, Chattooga County, Georgia, Death Certificate #10424; According to above Death Certificate, John William's father's name was also John William and notes his birth state as South Carolina. So far I have found absolutely nothing to verify that he immigrated from Ireland. I know there are mistakes made on Birth Certificates. For instance my mother's father was shown as Joe S. Thompson instead of John William Thompson on her Birth Certificate. So I am not sure about where that leaves me. John William Thompson m Mary Lewis Walker b 16 May 1849 at Rutherford County, North Carolina, (death date not known-after 1910 before 1923), on 08 Nov 1866 in Whitfield County, Georgia. John and Mary had ten (possibly eleven) children as follows: 1) Frederick W. L. Thompson, b Jan 1870, Whitfield County, Georgia (death date unknown) 2) Amy Irene Thompson, b 13 Jul 1873, Georgia, d 13 Jan 1926, Chatooga Co., GA, m William Henry Bankey 3) Martha E. Thompson, b 15 Jan 1874, Georgia, d Dec 1974, Nashville, TN, m John C. Loggins 4) Ollie Thompson, b 1876, m a Mr. Carroll 5) Alice M. Thompson, b 1879, Georgia 6) Mary C. Thompson, b Nov 1880, Georgia, m A.C. Spratt, They lived in Ellendoro, NC 7) Joseph Suttle Thompson, b May 1885, Georgia, d Dec 1966. I believe he married Gertrude Wynn on 28 Apr 1907 in Floyd Co., GA 8) John Perry Thompson, b 13 Dec 1888, Georgia, d Jun 1970, Altoona, Alabama, m Elizabeth 9) Jessie Louise Thompson, b 06 Sep 1890, LaFayette, Walker Co., GA, d 21 Jun 1967,Georgia, m Lesley Cicero Tripp, b 25 Apr 1892. Gordon Co., GA, d 16 Feb 1960 on 22 Jun 1913, LaFayette, Walker Co. GA, 10) Ruth Thompson (info above) Thank you for taking the time to read this.
