Author: jillynetter Surnames: Thompson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/17250/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I've been searching this family for ages. William THOMPSON born Richmond Yorkshire c 1833 Wife Mary born Morpeth c 1837 I can't find them in 1861 census nor have I found any matches from birth certificates. Any ideas? in 1871 they were in Bellingham with children - Thomas A Thompson c1859 born Hexham Jane A Thompson c1864 born Hexham I find them boarding with Thomas Cowen & Rachel Lewis in 1881 but not with their children. Every GRO reference for the children don't match with Mary or William. My suspicion is that Son Thomas is actually Marys illegitemate son and is called Thomas Cowen as per the aformentioned 1861 census. I've scoured every source I can and just hope someone reading this may have an inkling on how I can find these. I'd be so grateful for advice. James H. married Silina Campbell (1848-1929), and William Reeves married Martha Moman (1821-1900). It is obvious that your Israel and my William were brothers. I don't have much more than basic information about Moses, Israel, and Johnathan. I'm waiting to hear from the genealogist to learn if their parents have been found. Author: 6wh07433 Surnames: Thompson, Crabtree Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/17174.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: According to the Russell County Civil War website, William Abraham served in company A of the virginia state line. He also enlisted in company G of the 37th Virginia Infantry on July 31, 1861. I live in Wayne County, West Virginia and I have a book that lists all the soldiers from Wayne County who served in the Civil War. The books states that Wm. Abraham was a 4th corporal in company D of the 5th Virginia Infantry. What is hard to determine is which 5th Virginia this was. There was a 5th Virginia Infantry that was Confederate and was part of Stonewall Jackson's brigade. However, a company of the 5th Virginia was also raised in Ceredo, a town in Wayne County. This 5th Virginia was Union and changed its name to the 5th WV Infantry when West Virginia became a state. If Wm. Abraham served in the Union regiment, this could explain why he moved north during the war. Perhaps he switched sides. He likely chose Wayne County because he already had relatives here. I am currently working on a book about William Abraham and his brother, Zaddock, who also came to Wayne County. I haven't decided if I am going to include their other siblings since they did not move to Wayne County. Any information you can share about Wm. Abraham would be appreciated. I would love to find a picture of him. Also, if you would like to have your line included in this book please send it along. I'm not sure how long it will take to finish this book as I have just started. I am also working on a book about the town of Wayne so I have to divide my time between them. Thanks. I have a transcription of Archibald Thompson's Index and Diary. I ran every Thompson name that he listed through ancestry.com, rootsweb.com, familysearch.org, etc., but haven't found any connections with Moses, Israel, William, or Johnathan. On familysearch.org I found just Thompson and Mrs. Thompson for the parents. Thompson was born <1778> and Mrs. Thompson was born <1787>. The marriage date was c1803. I have the 1830 Gasconade Census as well and was very enthusiastic to see the Thompson's listed. I ran the Ratliff Thompson name, but I could find nothing definitive. I've talked to the Thompsons that I know still living in the Maries, Gasconade, Osage Counties, and they had no information to shed light on the unnamed parents. I'm sure that the sons named some of their children with the grandparents' names, but which names are the correct ones? I've even commissioned a professional genealogist to research the Thomps! ons of Green County, Kentucky, who moved to Gasconade County, Missouri, in the late 1820's to 1835-1836 when Johnathan and William married their life-time companions. I have pictures of William and Martha's tombstones. Somewhere, I have the locations of the burial sites of the three other Thompson boys. When I find anything definitive, I will post it on this board. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: micgarob1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/7774.185.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am a descendent of Jonathan Thompson that you mentioned. I have been working on this connection as well. I suspect that the father was Ratliff Thompson born 25 Apr 1767 in Va to Archibald Thompson. I am having trouble proving it. Moses' neighbor in the 1830 Gasconade MO Census was is possibly a Ratliff Thompson. The name is not clear. The age(15-20) does not match Ratliff senior but is possibly a son. It also lists 2 males less than 5, 1 male less than 10, and 1 male less than 15. No females were listed. I also noted from a posting somewhere Israel's will of 1874 in Maries County. He listed what appears to be his siblings. Wm and Jonathan Thompson but also Martha (Patsy) Thompson (Mrs Jefferson Johnson). He also listed Edmund, John, Abram and Susan Thompson who appear to be the children of Moses Thompson. James Thompson and two other Thompsons living in KY. Rebecca Thompson living in Il. Then Martha Ann, Charlotte, Israel, James Ratliff and Valentine Spain who are the children of Elizabeth Thompson and Mark De Spain living in Webster Co MO. According to Archibald's diary, Ratliff had a daughter Elizabeth born 1798 and a son Moses born 1800. Ratliff is in the 1820 Green Co KY census but not in 1830 Green Co, KY census. Some of the birth dates do not match exactly but the naming of Elizabeth's son James Ratliff De Spain does give some support to this theory. Does anyone have things to help or discredit my theory?
