    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: snakehere Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/7774.185.1.3.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I hope it will be OK to ask you a question regarding your professional genealogist. I am researching a William/Richard Thompson who married a Martha (don't know last name). They are on the 1860 Bradley County,Tn. census with their 3 daughters and then in 1870 Martha and their 3 daughters are shown on the Rhea County, Tn. census. I know Richard/William served in the Civil War ( it is difficult to track down someone when you don't know for sure their first name nor the maiden name of the wife). I never find them prior to 1860 nor after 1870 except for my ggrandmother who was one of the girls. Now, can you tell me how much I might expect to pay for the use of a genealogist and where I would go to find one for that part of Tennessee? I don't like to give up and have to use someone other than myself but I am getting up in age and I can't find anyone anywhere that can or will send me info. about them. I apologize for taking your time but appreciate any info. about the genealogist. Thank you. Wanda Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: roncar1622 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/7774.185.1.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello! I have been working on my maternal Thompson side of the family for two years. I was stymied by the parents of William Reeves Thompson (1805-1877) born in Green County, Kentucky, and died in Maries County, Missouri. I consulted a professional genealogist with the following results. The evidence supports with a high degree of confidence that Ratliff Thompson of Green County, Kentucky, was the father of William Reeves Thompson. William likely had brothers named Johnathan, Moses, and Israel Thompson; plus the older sisters Elizabeth (bFeb1798) and Molley (b17Nov1800). Evidence gathered from Ancestry World Tree and Archibald Thompson's Diary claim that Ratliff Thompson was married to Catherine "Cattie" Cumpton or Crumpton, or Compton. Further, that Ratliff was the son of Archibald Thompson and Mary Elswick; however, this has not yet been proven. Ratliff disappears from Green County, Kentucky, as he no longer appears on the tax list; he does appear in Gasconade County, Missou! ri, by 1830. William Reeves and Martha Moman were married in 1835 in Gasconade County. Johnathan was married to Mary Rogers in Gasconade County in 1837. He was 16 and Mary was 15. There are more clues too numerous to list in this small space. If you would like to have more of the evidence that led the genealogist to declare that the documents that I supplied and that she uncovered would lead one to believe that possible and probable are words that could be used with some confidence in the conclusions she reached, let me know on the board.
