Author: rob4mar Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/17397.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: William Hale Thompson (A) 1869-1944 was born in Boston, Mass., the son of William Hale Thompson (B) and Medora (nee Gale). Medora Gale was the daughter of Stephen F. Gale, one of the founders of Chicago. William Hale Thompson (B) was born in Waterford, Ireland and emigrated to U.S.A. as did his brother Frederick where they were living in New York City in 1862, both unmarried. I believe that Frederick later moved to Canada. William Hale Thompson (B) was the son of William Thompson (C) born 1790 in Waterford, Ireland. His wife was most likely a Hale. William Thompson (C) was the eldest son of William Thompson (D) and his wife Mary Sparrow. They married in 1789. In addition to William Thompson (C) they also had two other sons John and Joseph. John emigrated to Canada in 1827 and married Charlotte Pottinger. They had a large family, and their youngest son, John David Sparrow Thompson entered public life in Canada. He married Annie Affleck and became a judge in the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia, Attorney General od Canada and in 1842 became Prime Minister of Canada until his death in 1844. He would have been a first cousin of William Hale Thompson (A). The third son of William Thompson (C) was Joseph Sparrow Thompson who remained in Waterford, Ireland and spent his working life in the bacon industry. He was my great grandfather. I would be very interested in establishing contact with anyone who may be a part of the above connectiom. Hi Everyone, I am Evie Thompson and I am the AR commisioner for Clan MacTavish and we are not a sept of Clan Campbell and this can be confirmed by the Lord Lyon King of Arms. There are DNA projects and research sites out there and as soon as I can get to my files and such I can post some links if anyone is interested!!! Could we provide sources for some of these claims, especially on the ego playing into the spelling of these surnames. There are some who take pride in their surnames and would like to see facts on these kind of comments!!! He was born (not sure where) between 1752-1759. He was a veteran of the Rev. War and his pension papers say that he enlisted in the State Troops in August 1776 and was stationed at Tygart's Valley. Later, they marched to Winchester where he enlisted in the 12th Va. Reg't in April 1777. He was a private in the company commanded by Capt. Michael Bowyer, Col. James Wood's Reg't. His pension number was S36826 and he was discharged at Salisbury, NC in 1781. I would very much like to learn who his parents were and where he lived before the war. As a possible clue, a pension statement from John Slaven Jr says that he (Slaven) elisted in this same company in Augusta County in the later part of 1776. They rendezvoused at Staunton and then marched to the Tygart Valley. Any information would be greatly appreciated. my email address is: cscott@embarqmail.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
