    1. [THOMPSON] Cincinnati Thompsons
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Judith6355 Surnames: Thompson, Livingston Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/17483/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am seeking information about the ancestors of Samuel Joseph Thompson, a prominent attorney in Cincinnati, b. 26 Feb 1820 d. 14 Oct 1895. Records are inconsistent concerning his state of birth, but W.VA. seems the most probable. He is buried in Spring Grove Cemetery. He had a brother, Moses Franklin Thompson, b. abt 1823 in Wheeling, W.VA, who was a merchant in Cincinnati and is also buried in Spring Grove Cemetery. Their father was John Thompson, who appears to have been living in Cincinnati with Moses in 1870 at the age of 82 and is listed as born in PA, although Samuel lists his father as born in Ohio. Family history says that the Samuel's mother was Elsa Livingston, but the interment records at Spring Grove Cemetery list the parents of both Samuel and Moses as John and Mary. I have information on the descendants of Samuel and Moses. Samuel's son Charles Telford became a prominant attorney and civic leader in Minneapolis. But I am trying to find out what other sibli! ngs they had, where John Thompson came from, who the mother of Samuel and Moses was, and any other information about this family. I believe they were Scotch-Irish, but have no information about their arrival in the U.S. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [THOMPSON] Thompson NC?GA & other states (TN, AL, OK, TX)
    2. Debbie Woolf
    3. Well, since all THOMPSONs is a vague subj. line I changed it and will repeat my every so often request for information. I have Elizabeth THOMPSON b abt 1827 NC? living in 1850 Union Co. GA 1860 missing from census 1870 Fannin Co. GA 1880 Fannin Co. GA her children included these names/dates (approx. dates) Louada Ann b abt 1845 GA? James Manuel b abt 1848 NC? Lydia Caroline or Caroline Lydia b abt 1849/50 GA? and possible Arminda b abt 1859/60 NOTE the large gap between Lydia and ARminda. It's possible there are more childten, living with her spouse, whoever that might be. OR Arminda may not be hers, but a niece, cousin or grandchild. Louada Ann md. several times to these surnames: MORGAN, DAVIS and FORTNER Lydia Caroline md. Samuel F. STANLEY and remained in the upper gA region as far as I know. He died in a vet. hospital in the Wash. TN region James Manuel md. Sarah Matilda SHELTON and possible she is related to the Henry SHELTON and Matilda (HAYGOOD OR BRUCE) line. they had a child who md. into the FORTNER line from above James migrated around, and it's possible to be near family, his father died while he served Civil war, and he was underage (uncle lied about his age, parents could not get him out). He md. in Lumpkin Co. GA 1871 by 1880 he was in Marshall Co. ALA, but went into E TN, living in Birchiwood, James Co. TN, lived in Ham. Co. TN, and Rhea/Meigs Co. TN but by the 1890s he was in Indian Territory. Possible went there with his son in law's family ie. the MOORE, MYERS & CANTRELLs of Meigs/Rhea Co. TN. there is a naming pattern that closely parallels the David THOMPSON and Nancy RIDER line out of Union Co. GA but I can not tie him into that line. I believe that Eliz. THOMPSON was actually a LONG, the eldest daughter of James LONG and Uly CANSLER who came from Burke Co. NC to Union Co. GA by 1830. IT is possible the THOMPSONs came out of that same region. I have had this brickwall up for about 10 years and keep hoping to find someone with records to tie in, or an obscure record that "Fits" Elizabeth to a mate or names father of her children. Possible bastardly bond records in GA ???? or orphan records ??? or birth records in TN on James M. THOMPSON's children Henry Miles and Saraah LOUADA born in Ham. or James Co. in the mid 1880's. The mother Sarah Matilda SHELTON THOMPSON died in the late 1880's in TN (hoping to fine a grave, a death, something on her) thanks, Debbie
