Or, with Nathaniel and William Thompson [brothers] of that area? FRENCH CREEK Baptist Church at French Creek (1821) Was the first organized church in the town; their first meetings were held in a log school house on lot 54, near the present residence (1874) of John JONES. Among the first members were: Roswell COE, William ADAMS and wife, Nathaniel THOMPSON and wife, ? FARNSWORTH and wife, A.M. HIGGINS and wife and Amon BEEBE. The ministers officiating at its organization were Elder GILLET and Elder ALFORD. In consequence of the removal from the town of a large portion of its members, the church was continued but a few years. Another Baptist church was formed in 1844-45 which after a brief existence, became extinct, a third was formed about 1856 and it has also ceased to exist; Christian Chruch at French Creek (1831): Organized by Elder, Jerry KNOWLES. With a membership of about 24, among whom were M. BLOSS, Calvin BLOSS, Mrs. Hubbard BOWLES, and others, the ceremony of washing feet was literally observed in this church. Methodist Episcopal Church of French Creek (1830): The Methodist Episcopal Church was organized in the north-east part of the town, in 1830, by Rev. J. K. HALLOCK and Rev. J. CHANDLER, who were the first two pastors. The first members were: Isiah & Betsey GOLDING,,William & Amy ADAMS, MOSES OLDS & wife. Mrs. BOWLES also united at the same time, or soon after. Their first and only house of worship stands on lot 46. It was finished in 1867. The Society received 50 acresof land from the Holland Land Company. This land, like similar donations in other towns, was called *"gospel land." It was a part of lot 30 and was sold by order of the county court, on a Petition of the church; and the proceeds were applied to the building of a House of worship. [* The Holland Land Company - had set aside "gospel land" in each town. Most of the churches sold this land to acquire the money to build an edifice. A court order was needed to sell the land because the "church" first had to establish ownership of the land and that another church was not entitled to it. Many lawsuits were filed over this "gospel land"] Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Were they from N. Ireland? Were they Protestant or Catholic? My Thompsons came as indentured servants from N. Ireland. There were either 5 or seven brothers who traveled this way. This was about 1735. When the ship got into Baltimore harbor, the boys all jumped overboard and swam to shore to escape serving out their indentures. Now the interesting part is that my own line traveled from Baltimore to the Gettysburg, PA area and then after the civil war headed for Champaign County, OH which is next to Logan County. In fact my granfather, who was born in Degraff in 1887, lived in Bellefontaine for a while. Amy Hutton Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Enid is on the western side of the state, however. This would have been Oklahoma Territory prior to statehood. Whites settled there initially, though there were some plains Indians that were relocated in that part of the state. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am searching for the family of a Thompson that I am not really sure what his first name was. He is shown on the 1860 Bradley County, Tennessee census with wife Martha M. and 3 daughters (Eliza, Maree Caroline or Marce Caroline and Manerva). His name is shown blurred as possibly Bristhand but was corrected recently to Richard, family members have said they thought it was William but none of these members to my knowledge have proof of this ( how I wish they did). I find him only this one time, I can't find their marriage nor either of their deaths and I can't find him prior to 1860 but believe his father was possibly from NC. He is shown as age 30 in 1860. I know that he served in the Civil War but do not know on which side. I have a very poor copy of a picture of him in his uniform. I know for sure he was in the Civil War because a large picture of him hung in my grandmother's house until her death (he was her father). Not one person knows what happened to that picture. I know there is some info. on the internet showing that his name was William and her maiden name was Jackson but lots of that info. does not fit with the data I have found (which is very little) but it does not match the 1860 census which I know is the family I am looking for. The Thompson Cousins who have relatives in Texas descend from George Anderson Thompson and Bryant Thompson out of Tennessee. George Anderson Thompson's , son, Jacob Bryant Thompson was my great-uncle and I believe he was related to the Thompson that I am researching who was married to Martha. If anyone has info. about who the father and grandfather of Bryant Thompson was I would love to have it because there could lie the key to my 1860 Thompson married to Martha. Jacob Bryant, son of George Anderson told my cousin that he and his wife were 3rd. cousins. His wife , my grandmother's sister, was the granddaughter of the 1860 Thompson married to Martha. I have been on thie research for several years without any luck at all. There just does not seem to be anyone that knows anything about this Thompson and his wife Martha. I can tell you that on the 1870 Census, Martha and the 3 girls show up in Rhea County, Tn. without the husband. I think she might have moved there to be near either her family or his. I know he was killed either during the war or right after the war while he was at home. Eliza Jane supposedly saw him killed by bushwhackers. My grandmother, Eliza Jane's daughter told me this but I never asked anything more because I was a teenager and was not interested. I appreciated any input or suggestions that anyone would like to offer to me. I am getting up in age now and would like to know about my family before I go to meet them. Oh, Eliza Jane and her family went to Oklahoma before 1907. Some of the family think she might have gone there to get Indian land (she possibly was of Indian descent). Eliza Jane was married to John Wesley Perry. He was from Tennessee, the son of Allen Perry. I apologize for this being so long. I do have some Thompsons married to Cherokee. And they do eventually trace back to NC, but not in 1827. William Thompson, Born 1745 in Norfolk, VA died in North Carolina. He was married to Jamima Portlock. I do not know for sure if she was Cherokee, but I do know that they lived among the Cherokee. In fact many of these Thompsons were believed to either be part Indian, or married to Indian or part Indian women. There was a William, Jesse, Benjamin, James and Allen. Several fought in the Revolutionary war, but it is uncertain which side they may have fought on, as many of those living with the Cherokee were loyalists. Jesse Thompson had a daughter named Nancy Jane, but she was born prior to 1827, more in the 1810 range. And there is no way to be certain that this is even the right family for you, but certainly possible. As I said, many Thompsons were living and intermarrying with the Cherokee in the NC region. The migration for! my Thompson went from North Carolina to the Tennessee River area of Akabama, then to Arkansas, Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, and later to Texas. One great source for these early cherokee thompsons is a book James George Thompson, 1802-1879, by Mary Wilson Kelsey and Mavis Parrott Kelsey, Copyright 1988, Texas A & bM University Press. If you can get your hands on this book the first chapter deals with some of these early Thompson lines and migrations. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The child was Elizabeth Camellia, born 8 July 1899, New Orleans. This Mary was born July 14, 1877, in New Orleans to Edward Marmillion and Elizabeth Jee. Now I also found a death for a Monroe Jones, who died 1 July 1916 in New orleans, colored, aged 35, page 836, vol 166. I also looked at the WWI draft cards for a Monroe to see if there is one - and then perhaps the death record is not your Monroe. There is not a WWI draft card (which would have been 1917ish) for a Monroe Jones - further stregthening this being your Monroe's death. And: Lulu Jones, aged 42, died 21 Nov 1920, New Orleans, colored, page 545, vol 180. There were two Olivia Jacksons who died in new Orleans: One died 16 Aug 1931, colored, age 35 and the other died 28 Apr 1932, colored, age 35. Also, a Monroe Jones aged 22, married Lola Holland, age 24, 8 Aug 1899, New Orleans. Lola and Lulu could be one in the same - Holland sourt of sounds like Hullum. Some ideas if you have not tried already: obtain Walters death certificate and see who the parents are on there. See if there are any births in Morgan City for him, I did not see on in New Orleans but those records are not complete apparently. You might also try random acts of genealogical kindness to see if someone is volunteering for New Orleans records. It is called "RAOGK". Sorry I could not be of more help. This is not my family.
