If so, he never knew but was always treated as if he wasn't wanted so late in life so that might explain it. Paul was my Grandfather. Hopefully someone out there can shed some light on this Family since my sister and I are the last of this line as Paul only had a daughter. The descendant lists do not all agree on the number, names and dates of birth of their children. Does your list of their children include a Nathaniel Herbert? He is the Herbert who I am trying to trace. According to the 1850 census of Marshall Co., MS, he was b. in VA in 1787 and several incidents in the his life lead me to suspect he is related to the William Herbert family. Henrietta H. Author: Ghostchaserdigginguproots Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/16924.4/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The information I posted stated that the Thompson's listed might be children of John Thompson and Lady Spotswood. No information has been found to document that. More information points to a a Leonard Thompson from Miller county, MO. who may have been the father or uncle of these Thompson's who were in Newton and McDonald county by the early to mid 1840's. The Donaghe family was also with this group. The second piece of information that was incorrect was a statement that Washington Walker led the 1852 wagon train. He led it only to Missouri where one wagon train was formed and Mercer Thompson was elected wagon train captain. Mercer was a natural leader and had prior Oregon trail experience. Their wagon made it through with no troubles other then two cases of cholera, which Mercer Thompson, trained in medicine, was able to treat. It is well known that families traveled together and intermarried. By joining DNA studies we may be able to uncover links that have all but vanished. There are DNA tests for direct line male descendants called yDNA tests that trace direct male lines. There are direct female tests called mtDNA tests that trace direct female lines. And most recently there are FAMILY FINDER tests that locate people of any gender with sufficiently close DNA markers to indicate fairly close cousinhood between individuals in the study. For information on such tests check any reputable DNA lab. If you already have one or more DNA tests available and have ancestors in Horry County area prior to 1810, please consider joining the Horry County South Carolina DNA group. If you do not yet have DNA tests, consider getting one or more. These can be obtained in a strategic manner to maximize the information-such as convincing a male direct line individual such as your father or brother to give a DNA sample and doing as many tests as possible on that individual. I have been lucky enough to convince two male second cousins, my father, and my maternal uncle to join. That means I am able to tell when someone is kin to one or two which line the match might come from. Let's knock down some brick walls! I am looking for information about Joseph T. Thompson and his wife, Isabella. I do not know very much about them. I think they are from Tennessee and maybe around Rutherford County, Tennessee. They had a daughter named Isabelle Thompson who married Joseph Richmond McCracken. I think that Isabelle may have been born in Virginia so they may have been born there as well. I have that Isabelle Thompson McCracken lived in Readyville, Tennessee and died there and is buried in Rutherford County, Tennessee. She had a sister named Ann Thompson and a brother named John Thompson, I think. Joseph Richmond McCracken moved to Marion County, Arkansas after Isabelle died. I don't really have any information about Isabelle parent's except their names and what little I know about her. I don't know if anyone can help me with this family or not. Thank you so much.
