Author: michaelpthompson Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/7774.1.9.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Good for you Russell. I'm a life member myself, and you're right, I have found far more useful information there than this "any Thompson" thing could ever provide. There are millions of Thompsons in the world, and most are not related. To find your own family; narrow it down. Clan Thompson is at http://www.clanthompson.org Great resources, including many with genealogical information. Also, for the DNA information, see http://tinyurl.com/2ak29yo Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: michaelpthompson Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/7774.440.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: It still mystifies me that people want to connect with any and all Thompsons, as if there's any possibility of finding somebody related to you that way. Did you know there are around 672500 people in the United States alone who have THOMPSON as a last name? Probably millions worldwide. Any person who had an ancestor named Thom could have taken this as a family name when that became the style. There are literally hundreds of thousands of completely unrelated Thompson families. Don't seek to talk to any Thompson. Find your own relatives and ancestors by posting some specific information. Include the main names in the subject line, and a date range at least. Give as many specifics as you have. Then you might actually match up with someone else's family tree. We're ALL related one way or another to somebody named Thompson, or we wouldn't be on this board. Narrow it down to something useful. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am really sorry, Russell I don't know where the Thompsons of "mine" came from.I think from No.Ireland as there was a large exodus from there to the No.American colonies in the 1700's and also because my Thompsons settled in or near the Cumberland area in what is now Appalachia.I cannot find anything further back, however , than my gggrandparents Benj.and Mary Thompson married in Maryland in 1828 and born in 1807 in Virginia and 1806 in Mrayland respectively.
