Author: ksschultz Surnames: Thompson, Morris, Green Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/16823.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: This reply may be several years too late to still be of interest to you. I know that Richard and John Thompson were related as father and son. In the mid-1790's they migrated to Barnwell District, SC (possibly still called Winton when they got there). John and his family, along with his brother Lemuel Burkett Thompson and his sister Sarah Thompson Morris and her husband Edmund Morris, migrated to Amite Co., MS in 1809 and 1810. Richard died in Barnwell Co. in 1820. Richard's other sons were Dickson/Dixon, Joseph, and probably Josiah. Their other daughter was Ann Thompson Green. Aris/Ayres, later moved from Barnwell Co. to Autauga Co., Alabama. John Thompson's children were Penelope Thompson Jenkins; Rowland Thompson; Ann/Anna Thompson Mercer; Sarah Thompson Hinson Avery; John Thompson, Jr.; Mary Ann Thompson Berryhill; Loderick?/Lockwood? Thompson (died in childhood); Priscilla Thompson McCloy; Richard Thompson; and Elijah Thompson. I have no information on whether William and Adam Thompson were related to Richard and John. See the History of Cambria County, Pennsylvania, Henry Wilson Storey (available on google books). Says essentially that Thompsons from Ireland married Thompsons from Scotland, settled in Westmoreland county, then moved to Cambria County. I'm thinking this might be your family because my Butler to Mercer County relatives first settled in Cambria. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I unfortunately don't know any of Samuel's siblings, but if your Johns don't show up in Butler Co at all it's probably not them. They would have had to move around 1790 or 1800ish. 1. [THOMPSON] Martha Caroline Thompson married Pemberton Carson
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: janemartin1941 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/18824/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Seth Cason last lived in MO. His daughter married Francis Marion Thompson, son of Elizabeth Kelsey and Leonard Thompson of Miller Co., MO. Francis Marion Thompson & Missouri Ann Carson and Pemberton are buried at Dufar, Oregon. Martha Thompson Cason died very young and is buried at Brownsville, where Joseph Thompson and some others Thompsons were buried. PEMBERTON F. CASON Is a pioneer of many sections and has done the work of the frontiersman in a worthy manner. The result is that today he is reaping the rewards of his labors and is in possession of much property. He owns a choice ranch of over five hundred acres of fertile grain land about ten miles west from Condon, besides much stock. He has his place well improved and is an enterprising and thrifty farmer. Pemberton F. Cason was born in Morgan county, Missouri, on February 16, 1843. Seth Cason was his father and he came as a pioneer to Missouri. His father, the grandfather of our subject, had fought under General Jackson in the War of 1812. His grandfather, the great-grandfather of our subject, was a patriot under General Washington in the Revolution. He married Miss Sarah Woods, who was born near Wheeling, Virginia. She went to Missouri with her husband, who died soon after arriving there. She remained a widow for some years and then married Mr. John Hook, a native Kentuckian. In 1864 the family came across the plains and settlement was made in Marion county, Oregon. There the parents remained until their death. After he had seen the family well settled, our subject started out for himself. His education had been obtained in Missouri, but owing to the short and poor schools on the frontier in Missouri, he had little chance to perfect himself. This lack, however, he has well made up for in careful observation and study in later years. As stated, he assisted the family to get settled and then he went to the Idaho mines. A year later he came to Linn county, Oregon, and after that he journeyed south to Arizona. There he wrought as a government freighter for five years. After this we find him in California. When Mr. Cason crossed the plains he came through the territory now embraced in Gilliam county and he never could quite forget the fertile prairies and magnificent opportunities here offered the industrious man. Consequently he gave way to the impression and made his way back to this place in 1881. He settled first in a good location two miles south from his present home. Then he selected his present place and since that time has given his attention to the work here. He has now everything convenient and has prospered well. In early days Mr. Cason had much experience in fighting Indians, and it was necessary in those days each man should always be on the lookout for the treacherous savage. The nearest supply point was The Dalles, nearly two hundred miles distant. But he weathered the storms, braved the dangers and is now favored with a competence for his earthly days. In 1873, Mr. Cason married Miss Martha Thompson, a native of Oregon. She died in 1874. Her parents were Joseph and Elizabeth (Donohue) Thompson, early pioneers to Oregon, and prominent and cultured people. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
