I knew I should have said more. W.H. Thomas was born in N.C. shortly after his parents came from Virginia and settled. His father drownwd in a river before William was born. Hewas named chief of the Cherokee Indians after their chief had diedand he always worked for them and their rights. He also served in the war between the states.I always thought we might be related because my grandfather was named William Holland Thomas Dillard at a time when W.H.T. had gained in popularity. Also, his wife was a cousin to my grandfather and there were other coincidences. His parents were Richard thomas and Temperance Calvert of Virginia, where all my Dillard family came from.
