    3. COPY OF GEORGE THOMAS DECLARATION OF SERVICE DURING THE CREEK INDIAN WAR STATE OF TENNESSEE, COUNTY OF Cocke,........................... On this 21st day of January One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty One, personally appeared before me, one of the Justices of Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid GEORGE THOMAS, aged 70 years, a resident of COCKE COUNTY in the State of Tennessee, who being duly sworn according to law that he is the indentical GEORGE THOMAS who was a Private and afterward Corporal in the Company commanded by CAPTAIN CHARLES LEVIN in the Regiment of TENNESSEE MOUNTED GUNMEN commanded by COL JOHN BROWN in the War with the CREEK INDIANS PROSECUTED BY THE UNITED STATES A. D. 1813 & 1814 that he VOLUNTEERED at NEWPORT, COCKE COUNTY, TENN on or about the 1st day of JANUARY A. D. 1814, for the term of SIX MONTHS and continued in actual service in said war for the term of FOUR & A HALF MONTHS and was hororably discharged at NEWPORT, TENNESSEE on the 16TH day of MAY A. D. 1815, HE STATES THAT HE SOLD HIS CERTIFICATE OF DISCHARGE TO ONE BLACKBURN JONES WHO ADVANCED HIM HIS PAY THEN IN ARREARS. He makes this Declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which he may be entitled under the "Act granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the United States" passed September 28th 1850. And I hereby certify that I believe the said GEORGE THOMAS to be the identical man who served as aforesaid and that he is of the age above stated, AND A MAN OF TRUTH. Signed WILLIAM CURETON, J. P. STATE OF TENNESSEE COUNTY OF COCKE, I hereby certify that WILLIAM CURETON Esq. before whom the foregoing declaration was made, was at the time thereof a Justice of the Peace in and for the County and State aforesaid, and duly authorized to adminster oaths for general purpose.
