THOMAS, David, born 6 July 1806 in Buckingham County, Virginia, died 17 Feb. 1871; once stage agent for the Carter Thomas and Hough stage line; Cumberland Presbyterian. Thomas, did in France and brought back and buried in New York City. (Columbia Herald, 8 May 1885.) George Lorillard Thomas is cousin to Pierre Lorellard, a millionaire of New York. THOMAS, General George H., died in San Franciso; comrades of his late Army of the Cumberland are to meet at the courthouse in Nashville at noon today for the purpose of paying a tribute of respect. (Nashville Republican Banner, 30 March 1870.) General Thomas left no will and the amoung of his personal estate is $40,000. His brothers John W. and Benjamin R. Thomas are still living and his sisters Judith E., Ann, and Frances Thomas live on a plantation near Newsman's Depot, Virginia. (Memphis Daily Appeal, 30 May 1870.) A sister of General Thomas married Dr. Gamaliel Bailey, well known editor of the National Era in Washington. (Memphis Daily Appeal, 6 April 1870.) General Thomas and ex-Confederate General Hood dined together on the 14th in the Louisville Hotel. (Memphis Daily Appeal, 15 Nov. 1866.) THOMAS, Ed, one of the most dangerous moonshiners in Hardin County, tn., was killed last week by revenue officers. His brother Gus Thomas later shot and killed the guied who led the officers to the still. (Maury Democrat, 19 Dec. 1895.) Gus Thomas of Hardin County who is in penitentiary for life for murder, escaped, but has been recaptured. (Clifton Mirror, 3 Nov. 1905.) THOMAS, Houston, colored, was hanged on boxwood tree on the public square in Murfreesboro; Miss Mary J. O'Neal is doing very well at present, though for a while it was feared that the brutal treatment she received by Houston thomas would cause her death. (Free Press, Murfreesboro, Tn., 19 Nov. 1881.) THOMAS, James, Confederate solder, was killed in the fight at Hoover's Gap; well known in Nashville. (Nashville Dispatch, 1 July 1863.) THOMAS, J. Mason, son of Major General George H. Thomas, died Sunday in San Francisco. (Nashville Republican Banner, 17 Oct. 1867.) THOMAS, John, 83, died last night at Timmons in Maury County; buried Rose Hill Cemetery. (Columbia Herald and Mail, 31 March 1875.) THOMAS, John, son of the Honorable James H. Thomas, was found near the Pulaski Road on the 22d, with his head terribly mutilated and he was insensible. His horse had thrown him and his skull was fractured. He had recently married and was on the way tohis mother-in-law's, Mrs. Spain. (Whig and Tribune, Jackson, Tn., 2 March 1872.) THOMAS, Mrs. Lucie Garrett, wife of James Thomas, Jr., daughter of Phineas and Margaret Garrett, died on the 9th. (Nashville Republican Banner, 10 Oct. 1868.) THOMAS, Miss Mattie e., 20, daughter of Wynn Thomas, Esquire of Daneyville, Tennessee, died on the 2d on Memphis; was on a visit here; born Mecklenburg County, Virginia. (Memphis Daily Appeal, 9 Nov. 1866.) THOMAS, Mrs. Phoebe, of Junction City, Illinois, was told by her doctors she had consumption and there was no hope for her, but two bottles od Dr. King's New Discovery cured her. Adv. (Columbia Herald, 8 Jan. 1897.) THOMAS, William, who died 9 April 1861, was disinterred in July 1888 near Morristown, Tennessee, for removal to a distant cemetery. His body was found to be in a perfect state of preservation and looked life-like. The beard, however, had grown considerably. (Maury Democrat, Columbia, Tn., 26 July 1888.) THOMAS, William, born in England, died in Columbia on Monday night and buried in Rose Hill Cemetery. (Nashville Herald and Mail, 26 March 1875.)
