In researching this line, it appears that several of the names keep appearing in many of the lines for which you decendants have very little information. If you go back and carefully review Ms. Martha K. Moses' post, you might find a clue to the origins of LEWIS, GEORGE, JONATHAN, JOHN and even EVAN THOMAS. These names just keep appearing on this THOMAS line without any resolution. Other than the information kindly provided by Ms. Martha K. Moses, does anyone have anything else relevant to share on the following line up to 1810? We need locations; dates; events; and records with source info. Let's see if we can link this line. He and his wife Catherine moved to Goshen Monthly Meeting in Chester Co., PA. abt. 1724. Sometime before 18 Oct 1734 and after 1726, Evan moves to Frederick Co., VA land, which John Hardin and John Smith are living on on 1040 acres on west side of Opechon. On 12 Nov 1735, he receives a patent from the Colony for 1014 acres (Tract 63 Map 4). These names first appeared beginning with EVAN THOMAS 1685 - 1755 [original immigrant] in Frederick Co., VA, which is located in the extreme north-west corner of the state, near the current Brucetown, Frederick Co., VA. [Even the DOUBTING THOMASes, amongst us, should find this interesting based on an unusual name like EVAN and it's recurrence. It's not commmon, like WILLIAM or JOHN.] EVAN THOMAS [born 1685 in Wales; entered colonies at Philadelphia, PA in 1719; & died Frederick Co., VA in 1755 at 70 years old] married CATHERINE THOMAS. There was also a LEWIS THOMAS, whose parentage is unknown, [ born before 1716 based on 1734 land record in Orange Co., VA , which was at this time connected to Frederick Co., VA. His son, OWEN THOMAS [born before 1734 based on 1752 land record and died 1769 in Orange Co., VA] had several sons: LEWIS THOMAS EST. B.1734 - 1769 in Orange Co., VA D. ?? JONATHAN THOMAS EST. These THOMAS lines are ALL in a prime location for migration westward into PA, OH, WV, TN and KY and of prime age by 1776 to have participated in the Revolutionary War. This would have placed them in TN & KY in the late 1780s forward. The Cumberland Trail was blazed by the Daniel Boone expedition in 1775 and stood open by 1780. I think that it is entirely possible that some of Evan Thomas's children had moved south from Hopewell MM area in Frederick County down into Orange County. But everyone needs to be aware of two facts on the below men found in Orange County: first in 1734 Orange County was VERY large extending into the area that is now Culpepper and areas west of Orange. By 1769 it would have been close to the size that is now. Second there was a Germanna settler named John Thomas who was in that area as early as 1717. He is not likely to have been a child of Evan Thomas the Welshman as Evan Thomas was not even in Pennsylvania by that date. The Germanna list has discussed this man somewhere along the line....I just don't have time to dig up anything that I might have saved.
