My ancestor, John W Thomas, was born circa 1840 in Ohio. He moved to Effingham, Illinois (unk date), where he married Rebecca Getz. They had several schildren in Illinois, then moved to Kansas. Their youngest child, my grandmother, was born approx 1889. Her name was Cora Lee Thomas. Is it possible the John W in your family, born in Ohio 1844, is the same as in my family line? Barbara, Where in Ohio? My Anthony THOMAS and wife, Isabella, were at Bedford, Cuyahoga Co., in 1850. Also--don't let Hugh's birthplace of "VA" throw you into thinking further south, because the present WV panhandle area between PA and OH was VA before 1863, and both Brooke and Hancock counties, VA/WV were major migration routes westward into OH.
