Hi all, I'm about to confuse you all, but please bear with me - I swear I'm not insane. Or at least not certifiably so. Anyhoo, somewhen in the dim and distant past I posted a family story that said two brothers, the aforementioned James and Edward Thomas, left Nantgarw (Eglwysilan, Glamorgan, Wales) for 'the States' (I know, it's a big place, but no-one remembers where...) in the late 1800s. The son of one of them, George, and his son, Vince/Vance, later visited the relatives who were in Senghennydd (Eglwysilan, Glamorgan, Wales) by this time (c.1914). The family as descibed in the same family history goes something like: William Frederick Thomas m. Catherine Carol ? (both of St.Davids) children: James Thomas (emigrated to USA) Charles Thomas (gfather of previously mentioned William Frederick) Edward Thomas (emigrated to USA) At a later dat I posted (from the boards) that I had managed to identify the family, but the family described in official documents differed slightly. The up-to-date version of what I've found is as follows (all the places are in Wales): William Frededrick Thomas (b.c1811 Lamphey) m.(9/4/1837 Haverfordwest) Catherine Carol Rowlands (b.c1811 Pembroke) chldren: George Samuel Thomas (b.19/12/1840 Pembroke) Charles Thomas (b.c1843 Pembroke) Mary Ann Thomas (b.c1845 Pembroke) John Thomas (b.c1847 Pembroke) Edward Thomas (b.c1849 Pembroke) William Frederick (b.c1851 Nantgarw) Charles (who I'm descended from) is 'accounted for' as he married a Mary Ann Brooks around 1864ish and stayed in Nantgarw for the rest of his life, AFAIK. John married a Martha ? and I think I have identified his household on the 1881 UK census - they certainly have used the family names (William F., Catherine, George S.). Edward married a Rebecca and I think I've managed to trace them to Plymouth, Luzerne, Pennsylvania on the 1880 US census through familysearch.org. At 19, William Frederick (of the brothers) was listed on the 1871 UK census as a blacksmith and was living with his widowed father. The obvious conclusion is that the erroneously named James has to be either George or William. Can anyone else help me with the mystery? Thanks, Jo ===== Joanne Thomas [email protected] http://www.geocities.com/journeymouse/ __________________________________________________ Yahoo!
