I'm searching for the parents of George A. Thomas who, according to his Civil War enlistment paper, was born about 1833 at Voluntown, Connecticut. George A. Thomas married Lucy R. Kenyon in 1856 at Hopkinton, Rhode Island. According to this marriage, recorded in the Hopkinton Town Hall, the father of George A. Thomas is also a George Thomas. George A. and Lucy R. Thomas are enumerated in the 1860 US Census for Hopkinton, Rhode Island, with one child. George A. Thomas died in 1863 in the Civil War. I have copies of his service record and his wife's pension documents. In none of these papers are George's parents named. I manually searched the 1850 US Census for both Connecticut and Rhode Island and found no George Thomas of the appropriate age (about age 17) with a father called George. I found no records that George A. Thomas owned property or paid taxes in either Connecticut or Rhode Island. I spent four days in the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City searching for the parents of George A. Thomas with no results. Any suggestions on where to search further are appreciated.
