    3. Hi Tom Did the Thomas' I sent you that moved from MA>ME sound like possible follow ups for you? Thanks for the tip on the Chapins. I do have a few Amasas in my Hancock family, and they are connected to the Chapins as well as Thomas'. I'll see what I can come up with from that direction, and read the history of Monson, ME. It's always exciting to find more clues to follow. Thanks. I checked my Hancock line for Lovicas, but only came up with 2 Lovinas. I do have a Lovina Thomas b.1818 Hartford, Oxford Co, ME, d. date/place unknown. She married 1846 Hartford, Oxford Co, ME to Benjamin Thomas Jr,, b. 1819, Hartford Oxford Co, ME. Lovina's parents were Nathaniel Thomas and Sarah 'Sally' Thomas. Benjamin Thomas Jr's parents were Benjamin Thomas Sr, and Dorcas Russell. I think I sent you both of the parents data already in the list of Thomas' of MA>ME. If not, let me know. As to your connection with Chapin, the name may have just been that a Chapin was admired or was a friend. Good luck with the Sherman clue. .I need to do more searching on my maternal lines. They came from Quaker roots, and. they were Henley/Henly from England>PA>NC>on West. My grandfather Floyd Mason Henley married a Dixon/Dickson. The Dixon/Dickson(s) were from the Northeast, I don't know if the Dixon/Dickson line was Quaker or not, but Joseph Dixon/Dickson (his parents born CT) and his son Joseph Abraham Dixon were born in NY (according to Federal census only. No second proof, except land /purchases in IL and MO).. Are you aware of pockets of Quakers in the Northeast? I am only aware of a Delaware communtiy. I wish I were able to do some good old stomping through the bushes up there. I have to remind myself that unless there are credible sources attached that I must always maintain a degree of skepticism until I can prove otherwise, a wise practice in this hobby. If you read the history of Monson, ME, you will find two Chapins in particular who are mentioned in the early history, Amasa and Aretas. Both were born in Monson, MA, a town about 10 miles outside of Springfield, MA where Deacon Samuel Chapin originally settled. Both were some of the earliest settlers of Monson, ME. I can work backwards to Deacon Samuel. Going forward does not take me very far. Amasa was the father of Aretas. Aretas had five children. James Henry Chapin, son of Aretas, married Lovica Vinton Sherman, daughter of Horatio Sherman another early settler, in 1861. Unfortunately, many of the early records of Monson were lost in a fire. My great grandfather was born in 1883, his father in 1846. We have a fairly confident lineage for my great grandfather's parents, but his mother's ancestry is weak. No where do I find a Chapin connection and hence my suspicion is that there may be no Chapin connection, but rather there may be a Sherman connection. Presumably, Lovica was my great grandfather's great aunt. I need to do some more research on her to track her down along with her family. She is reportedly buried in one of the suburbs of Boston. From there, then to see what further information can I dig out that may provide additional leads. Time to go beyond just researching what is available on the internet and do some real hardcore genealogical research if I think I am going to get to the bottom of this tangled mess.
