    1. Re: [THOMAS] John Thomas, Sr. & Sarah ?? of Old Darlington District
    2. Carolyn Sue Howard
    3. I descend from a Stephen Thomas out of North Carolina, wife was Jane ? They went first to Georgia (Harris Co.), and then over to Coosa Co., Alabama. My Stephen and Jane had a very large family and John Q. Thomas, one of their sons, born in about 1830-33, was my great grandfather. John Q. married Amanda M. Brown in March or April of 1850, then moved to Coosa Co., and my grandmother, Susan Americus Thomas, was born in December of 1850 in Coosa. My Stephen was murdered because he was thought to be harboring deserters in the Civil War. Does any of this sound familar to anybody - especially to N. T. Brown? I haven't run across too many people from this line. Sue (Johnson) Howard - This Thomas grandmother was my maternal grandmother and when she married, she married John F. Gilbert in 1869. ----- Original Message ----- From: "N T Brown" <ntbrown@comcast.net> To: <thomas@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, August 10, 2007 12:40 PM Subject: Re: [THOMAS] John Thomas, Sr. & Sarah ?? of Old Darlington District This is a very remote possibility, but if you haven't already done so, you might look at the Stephen Thomas line that came out of Anson County, NC. This Stephen Thomas is part of the Thomas line from Talbot County, MD. Some of Stephen's adult children lived in Marlboro District, SC. Some of Stephen's bunch migrated to Alabama in the late 1820s. There are at least two male Thomas descendants of Stephen who are participants in the Thomas Surname DNA Project with FamilyTree. Also, you might try jumping back at least one generation before Stephen to see if there are any leads there. You will find info on these lines on RootsWeb.com and Ancestry.com among other places. I am a descendant of Stephen's through his son Tristram and Tristram's son Robert and Robert's son, Daniel, who moved to Alabama in the late 1820s.
