    1. [THOMAS] On this 4th of July - Who was your military ancestral hero?
    2. Leslie Thomas
    3. A couple of the other lists I am on started this and I thought it would be interesting to see and perhaps connect with our military ancestors. Joseph W. Aaron Thomas (middle names ??) born about 1755 died in 1869 (yes this family has been known for longevity) in Union County Georgia was said to have served during the Revolutionary War. Filed claims to this end in 1854 however there was never any record found that the had served and re relinquished all claims. William Hunsucker Thomas grandson of Joseph born 1810 in what became Yancey County N.C. and died after 1880 in Blairsville, Union County Georgia. Served briefly during the Civil War - if was originally thought that this war would be short lived and many older men joined up thinking that. Joseph Monroe Thomas son of William Hunsucker Thomas born 8-2-1836 in Yancey County, N.C. and died 3-20-1918 in Canton, Cherokee County Georgia. He served in the Fannin Young Riflemen 11th Reg. Georgia Vol. Inf. CO. E. He was one of 127 men who enlisted at Morganton Georgia and one of 8 in that company to survive to surrender at Appomattox. Leslie Thomas
