James S. Thomas did not die in the Civil War. He was taken a prisoner and then he married my great grandmother Sara Elizabeth Maulden in Hamilton County, Tennessee. We were always told that he left home and never went back. He was a lot older than my great grandmother. This made us think he had another family before joining the war. Of all the research that I have done, I have come to the conclusion that the James S. Thomas that married Martha Anthony is our James S. Thomas. James S. did not die until he was in his 90s. I have a photograph of him when he was up in age. I think he left for the war and he never went back to his family. He would always beg his children to go back to Georgia and claim his inheritance.
