I am going to post my great grandfather again. I now have more information from his Civil War Pension Records. Be certain that the government was just a disagreeable back then as it is now. Poor man got measles on the barge down to the camp and was disabled the rest of his life. No wonder my grandmother remembers her mother in law always saying "Scott fit in the rebellion" probably in answer to the question "What is wrong with Scott?" Scott Harrison Thomas was born 11-26-1835 at Pickaway Ohio. He lived in Mt Vernon Iowa at the time of his enlistment. Later he lived in Cedar Rapids Iowa and then in Paola, KS for 33 years and Garnett, KS for 22 years. He married Mary C. McLaughlin 3-28-1858 in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. She died in Anderson county KS in April 1904. He remarried one Sarah E. Nevens, 9-17-1906 in Pueblo CO. Probably needed someone to look after him. His main claim was that he had impaired sight which is consistent with measles. Any information on parents or siblings would be greatly appreciated. Mary Thomas Wright
