(7/12/99) Houston, Tx THOMAS HELEN PAPPATHEODOROU THOMAS, died Saturday, July 10, 1999 peacefully at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 13, 1999 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3511 Yoakum Blvd., with The Rev. Fr. Andrew N. Eugenis and The Rev. Fr. James Pavlou officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Thomas in 1983. Mrs. Thomas is survived by her two daughters, Mary and husband, Dempsey J. Prappas, and Evangelia and husband, Andrew J. Yiannias; two grandsons, James D. Prappas and wife, Kathryn, and Dr. James A. Yiannias of Scottsdale, Arizona; and one great grandson, Dempsey James Michael Prappas; a sister living in Samos, Greece; and various nieces and nephews residing in the United States, Greece, and Australia. A special thank you is in order for her two devoted caretakers, Evelyn Ospino and Mercedes Arana and to Mrs. Thomas' doctors, Dr. Shanti Powell and Dr. George Gatoura. Mrs. Thomas was born March 1906 in Kondeika Samos, Greece and immigrated as a bride with her late husband, Mike to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1927, where she resided until 1962. During her years there she became a naturalized citizen, was a founding member of the St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, a charter member and past President of the Philoptohos Society and a charter member and President of the Daughters of Penelope. In 1962, she and her husband moved to Houston, Texas to be with their daughters. She devoted her life to her family and church. For the past thirty-seven years she was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and the Philoptohos Society. Her abilities and loves were many, but she will always be best remembered for her great unbelievable "Green Thumb" and her Keepo-garden.
