There are Thomas families mentioned in Hinshaw's Encyclopedia of American Genealogy, vol IV, which covers Western PA and Ohio as early as the 1790's. These families are coming north out of Virginia, North & South Carolina and Georgia. The Meeting mentioned are Redstone [Fayette Co.], Westland [Washington Co.] and Swickley [Westmoreland Co.]... The problem is Hinshaw is not complete so the original minutes of these early records needs to be found and read but it would be worth the effort for the clues it might divulge.
