Merrill/Morrell/Merrel Thomas was born about 1806 in Georgia.He married E. Caroline___ about 1830 in GA. (There was a Merrill in Clark and Bibb but I haven't found the connection.) Merrill and his family were living in Benton Co., Ala. (later named Calhoun) by 1850 census. They had these children; Nancy, John Lewis, Martha, Mary, Rebecca, Lucinda, Matilda A., Francis M., William, Taylor, Emily, and Elisha. Caroline died about 1863 and he married Mrs. Martha Marsh Harvey a widow on Nov. 22, 1864 in Calhoun Co., AL. They had these children: James, George S., Harvey, Julia, and John Henry. Merrill was said to be a deaf and dumb blacksmith. He died between 1876 and 1880. His wife Martha moved to Van Zandt Co., Texas with her family in 1894. I will exchange information on this family.
