This is my second time to join the Thomas list. I think that my e-mail address here at work got changed and then I was not on the list anymore. This is what I know of my Thomas line: My grandmother was Susan(nah) Americus Melvina Thomas. She was born in 1848 (yes, 1848!) in Georgia, probably Lincoln Co., GA. Her parents were John L. (have heard it was for Leonard) Thomas and Belinda Frances Moreman. They were married in December of 1843 in Lincoln Co. Belinda might have been from Wilkes Co. as that is where I find most information on her parents. At that time, Lincoln Co. might have been a part of Wilkes Co., GA. I have not been able to get back any further than John L. Thomas. I have no idea who his parents were. They were still in Lincoln Co. in 1850. Between 1850 and 1860, they moved to Tallapoosa Co., Alabama where John was supposedly killed in the Civil War. The only reason I know that they were from Lincoln Co. is because someone wrote to me about the Moreman's. In an article about my grandmother when she died in 1944, it said that she used to talk about the "Plantation" she lived on and about her grandfather who was a minister. I'm pretty sure it must have been her father's father. Can anyone help me out here or give me any suggestions as to how I can find who John L.'s parents were, where they came from originally, etc. Thanks in advance.
