I am researching William Thomas b. 1832/33 who married Jane Woodhill b 4 December 1836 . They married in 1855; North Dalton, England in 1855. On 5 September 1863 they emigrated to New Zealand arriving in Lyttleton on 'The Captain Cook". They had many children. It is thought that William may have been the son of Captain Joseph Thomas - a land surveyer who in 1849 chose the present site of Christchurch for a new settlement. Many of those who worked with Captain Thomas resided in Akaroa for most of their careers however it is believed that Captain Thomas went back to England and nothing is known of him after that. I have always known that my ancestry was Welsh but have found nothing to support that at this stage. -----Original Message----- From: Penny Carpenter <pcarpent@computershoppe.com> To: THOMAS-L@rootsweb.com <THOMAS-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Friday, 21 August 1998 3:07 Subject: John Thomas >I am researching a John Thomas born in Wales it is thought he had 2 >brothers and 2 sisters.
