    1. Re: [THOMAS] On this 4th of July, who was your military ancestor hero?
    2. Enjoyed reading this email and would like to add to it: Nicholas Thomas (b. March 22, 1753 in Providence, RI; d. January 20, 1838 in Eden, ME); Nicholas Thomas served as a private in the Revolutionary War under Col. John Allen; name verified recorded as a member of Col. Allen's troops, listed on flyleaf of Col. Allen's personal journal. Nicholas Thomas was married 3 times: 1st Wife - Lucy Somes; married on February 22, 1779; Parents of: Nicholas (b. 5/18/1780); Lucy (b. 7/2/1782; d. 9/29/1793); Betsey (b. 2/13/1784; d. 9/30/1793; Abraham (b. 11/4/1785; d. 11/15/1838); Isaac (b. November 20, 1787; d. June 12, 1856); Jacob (b. 11/2/1789; d. 10/5/1793); 2nd wife - Jane Richardson; married on October 18, 1792; Parents of: Lucy (b. 6/20/1793); Betsey (b. 8/24/1794); Jacob (b. 3/17/1796); Amos (b. 6/13/1798); James (b. 1/9/1800); David (b. 11/31/1802). 3rd wife - Lydia Hadley; married in Eden ME, December 21, 1820; no children) This Thomas family was recorded in the John Thomas Charter, which begins in 1666/1667, with the marriage of the first John Thomas of the family in North America and continues up until about 1850. The family lived in Providence, RI for several generations and then the fourth John Thomas moved to Eden on Mt. Desert Island (present day Bar Harbor, Maine). My family line runs through Isaac Thomas, a son of Nicholas' first marriage to Lucy Somes. Following the Civil War, quite a few Thomas men left Maine for other areas of the country. I do have records and information on many descendants of Isaac Thomas (1787-1856), who relocated from Eden to Presque Isle, ME. If you believe this is your Thomas family, I will do lookups in the Charter and my own records of more recent generations -- and would like to have your information (with sources) during the past 150 years to add to the charter. 1. [THOMAS] On this 4th of July - Who was your military ancestral hero?
    2. Leslie Thomas
    3. A couple of the other lists I am on started this and I thought it would be interesting to see and perhaps connect with our military ancestors. Joseph W. Aaron Thomas (middle names ??) born about 1755 died in 1869 (yes this family has been known for longevity) in Union County Georgia was said to have served during the Revolutionary War. Filed claims to this end in 1854 however there was never any record found that the had served and re relinquished all claims. William Hunsucker Thomas grandson of Joseph born 1810 in what became Yancey County N.C. and died after 1880 in Blairsville, Union County Georgia. Served briefly during the Civil War - if was originally thought that this war would be short lived and many older men joined up thinking that. Joseph Monroe Thomas son of William Hunsucker Thomas born 8-2-1836 in Yancey County, N.C. and died 3-20-1918 in Canton, Cherokee County Georgia. He served in the Fannin Young Riflemen 11th Reg. Georgia Vol. Inf. CO. E. He was one of 127 men who enlisted at Morganton Georgia and one of 8 in that company to survive to surrender at Appomattox. Leslie Thomas
