Hello, Rudolph THOMAS was the brother of my Elisha William THOMAS (1814 Adair County, Kentucky - 1849 Carroll County, Missouri). I am interested in contact with their ancestors. According to the censuses, Rudolph had these children: William G. THOMAS b 1832/33 in Missouri George W. THOMAS b 1838/39 in Missouri Fleming THOMAS b 1840/41 in Missouri James E. THOMAS b 1842/43 in Missouri John H. THOMAS b 1844/45 in Missouri David L. THOMAS b 1846/47 in Missouri Rudolph THOMAS b 1852/53 in Missouri Mary J. THOMAS b 1854/55 in Missouri Cynthia L. THOMAS b 1857/58 in Missouri James L. (or T.) THOMAS b 1859/60 in Missouri If you are a descendant of either of these men, please contact me. I have information to share. I descend from a Stephen Thomas out of North Carolina, wife was Jane ? They went first to Georgia (Harris Co.), and then over to Coosa Co., Alabama. My Stephen and Jane had a very large family and John Q. Thomas, one of their sons, born in about 1830-33, was my great grandfather. John Q. married Amanda M. Brown in March or April of 1850, then moved to Coosa Co., and my grandmother, Susan Americus Thomas, was born in December of 1850 in Coosa. My Stephen was murdered because he was thought to be harboring deserters in the Civil War. Does any of this sound familar to anybody - especially to N. T. Brown? I haven't run across too many people from this line. Sue (Johnson) Howard - This Thomas grandmother was my maternal grandmother and when she married, she married John F. Gilbert in 1869. ----- Original Message ----- From: "N T Brown" <ntbrown@comcast.net> To: <thomas@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, August 10, 2007 12:40 PM Subject: Re: [THOMAS] John Thomas, Sr. & Sarah ?? of Old Darlington District This is a very remote possibility, but if you haven't already done so, you might look at the Stephen Thomas line that came out of Anson County, NC. Dear NT Brown, Thank you for sending out that hoo-yah on Stephen Thomas. Believe me when I say I tried like crazy to make a connection with that clan. No documentation or proof surfaced to make the connection. Then the DNA testing came along and that was the death song. We simply do not match. DNA testing works, both ways. The good news is our John Thomas Sr is related to a William Riley Thomas b. 1803 NC and d. 7-13-1879 in Meriwether County, Ga. Not sure how the line comes together but the DNA matches up pretty good. I believe William would have been a nephew to our John. I am not a DNA expert but thats my story today and I am sticking with it UFN. If anyone out there has any info on a William Riley I would be interested in that also. Best Regards, Clifford Thomas PS: I guess I should mention Ken Hughey requested I reply concening the DNA part of your posting. Thanks again. ----- Original Message ----- From: N T Brown <ntbrown@comcast.net> Date: Sunday, August 12, 2007 21:58 Subject: Re: [THOMAS] John Thomas, Sr. & Sarah ?? of Old Darlington District To: thomas@rootsweb.com > This is a very remote possibility, but if you haven't already > done so, > you might look at the Stephen Thomas line that came out of Anson > County,NC. Hello Thomas Researchers, I'm researching John Thomas, Sr. and his wife Sarah ? that I find on the 1810 Darlington, SC Census. This branch of Thomases were born in North Carolina approximately in 1776 and 1783 respectively. They were married around 1800 and set up housekeeping in Darlington, SC. John & Sarah began having children in 1802. The children were: John Jr., Mary, Theophilus, Catherine, Cornelius, Jemima, Delida, (twins), and Isaac. This John & Sarah Thomas moved to Pike County, Alabama in about 1828. There, they would have three more children named Sarah, William, & James Henry. I have the complete line from John and Sarah forward, but cannot get past Darlington, SC and the 1800 year. Some researchers say that Sarah was Sarah Britt from Bertie County, NC. Others claim she is Sarah Culpepper from Nash County, N.C., but nobody has documentation. These are my wife's GGG Grandparents. We have subscribed to the Thomas DNA project, but do not have any hits going back that far. I would welcome any commentary on this brickwall. You may write us direct at Hughey01@msn.com. Thank You! Janet, I would greatly appreciate any info you are willing to share about the Thomas family you mentioned in Greenup, KY. Email me at bjcbrown@gmail.com. I'll let you know if any of it appears to be my Thomas family. Thanks, BJ
Hi BJ I have a John Thomas that was born in Md. but moved to Ky. Greenup Co. He was in the Kanawha Co., WV census is 1830, 1840 and 1850, after that I don't know if he died or left the state. Maybe he is the one you have in 1860. He had a son named John D(?), born in 1823. His son William had a son named David Henry born in 1854, but he lived and died in WV. His son John D. also had a son named David A. also born in 1854. So there may be a son named David of John, the oldest one, and that is the uncle these grandson David's are named after. I can send more information if you think it is possible that these Thomases are at least related to those, since All of John's kids were born in Greenup Co., Ky. Janet ----- Original Message ----- From: Barbara Brown To: THOMAS@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, August 08, 2007 7:16 PM Subject: [THOMAS] David Thomas I'm researching Thomas family in the Greenup & Carter counties of KY. David Thomas b 1829 is listed in the 1860 Greenup census with wife Ann & children and his father John listed as age 80, also listed is Matilda who is believed to be sister of David, and Henry who is believed to be brother of David. I know they later moved to Carter County. David's death certificate lists his mother as Catherine Rice. I have been unable to locate any of these family members prior to 1860. Some family members believe they came from PA through OH to KY; while others believe they came from NC to KY. David referred to himself as Pennsylvania Dutch, perhaps lending thought to the PA roots. Does anyone know this Thomas family or provide any clues to aid in my research? Aren't there two THOMAS family cemeteries? One on the Toe River - Roses Branch near the family farm house is a county park - and I've heard there is another one on another farm in the Micaville area. Both have mostly field stone markers. Howdy to all the cousins - enjoying the debate on the Yancey County line...
