    3. For Germany, don't overlook the name Thomen or Thommen for Thomas. Also the name Thomas was used in Germany. My ancestor was Jacob Thommen who arrived in Pennsylvania about 1750. I have two Thomas lines on the DNA center. John Thomas, immigrant, is in Connecticut as early as 1638. I have found many decendants for him, but no immigration data. Also a John Thomas, parentage unknown in Greene Co., Pennsylvania, born about 1760. I have located some of his descendants, but no one else matches the DNA Donna Thomas Bray Donna Bray Braydon29@kc.rr.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gabriel Thomas" <medic_zeb_indiana@yahoo.com> To: <thomas@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 31, 2008 8:58 AM Subject: Re: [THOMAS] Heritage of your Thomas family > >From what I've picked up I believe my Thomas line is from Wales not 100% > >certain yet. 3. My Thomas y-DNA (FTDNA), James Thomas from Scotland, doesn't match anyone else's -- yet, --but I am hoping that will change I did eventually find the immigrant ancestor - his name had been written Thomson not only in the Castle Garden index, but also in the original - an unusual occupation helped. So, even a literate person could have a mistake in their name in the ship's manifest, to further complicate searching for a common name. Actually Thomson is much more common than Thomas in Scotland, so maybe that accounts for the mistake Judy On Jan 31, 2008, at 9:42 AM, Donna Bray wrote: > For Germany, don't overlook the name Thomen or Thommen for Thomas. > Also the > name Thomas was used in Germany. > > My ancestor was Jacob Thommen who arrived in Pennsylvania about 1750. > > I have two Thomas lines on the DNA center. 3. Shannon, I too have Thomas family in Burke County. But I can only go back to Henry Thomas who was born in Surry County in about 1799 and died in Gaston County, NC. about 1878. He married Mary Smith. His son, Larkin was born in Caldwell County in 1838 and died in Burke county on 19 June 1916. He married Mary Watson. I am stumped on my Thomas line. You have more than I have. I thought by his name being different, Larkin Ashley Thomas, it would stick out and be easily picked up. That hasn't been the case. Larkin fought in the Civil War and was in Co. F, 26th Regiment. He moved to Burke County in about 1893. He lived according to his Civil War pension record at Gibbs. He is buried in the Obeth Cemetery. Larkin is my great-grandfather. 3. I also have this branch, as my 3rd great-grandparents are Joseph H. THOMAS (1818-1881) and Elizabeth HOOD (1820-1886). Joseph H. THOMAS is said to be the son of Joseph "Jose" G. THOMAS (b. 1798 to Aaron and Elizabeth Hunsaker), also seen as Joseph H. THOMAS, Sr. Joseph H. THOMAS (Jr) married Elizabeth HOOD in Union Co., GA and then moved on to Benton Co., AR, in 1851. They are buried on the homestead there (their memorials are at www.findagrave.com<about:blank>). I have notes from other researchers that say Joseph "Jose" G. (Sr.) THOMAS removed to Springfield, MO and died there. I have not located anything to support this, so I don't know. I've also seen some research that says he died in Union Co., GA. I know he was actually in Benton Co., AR after 1851 (per Goodspeed's and the census), but have no idea if he went back to GA or not. If anyone happens to know what happened to Joseph H. THOMAS' father, I'd really appreciate the help. 3. James and Elizabeth Thomas (both of these people were born with the Thomas surname), were both born in Cheddar, England, Janes ca. 1835, and Elizabeth in November, 1837. Their children were Arthur William, b. May, 1863, place unknown; Albert James, b. Cheddar in September, 1866; and Jennie, nothing else known of her. The mother, Elizabeth, had parents named Amariah Thomas and Anne Evans, born born in Cheddar, England. I know nothing about the parents of the father, James Thomas. After James died, Elizabeth Thomas married for her 2nd husband, George Evans, Jr., of Wedmore, Somerset, b. May, 1847. Other surnames that marry into these families include Coombe, Cooke, Athay, Richards, and Fear. Anyone else related to any of these Thomas or Evans families? If so, thanks for a reply.
