    3. I have the children of Hosea and Sarah Howell Thomas of Union County Georgia as: 1. William b. 1833 m. 1st Mary Rosetta Allen, 2nd Alysee Catherine Poteet. 2. James S. b. 1835 m. Martha Anthony (yes he died in the CW) 3. Lively Sylvia Nancy b. 1837 m. John Evrem Davenport. 4. Martha "Patty" b. 1844 m. James Cobb. 5. Patterson Murray Dick b. 1846 m. Louisa Brewer There was a Henry Thomas b. about 1820 the son of Aaron and Elizabeth Hunsucker Thomas who came to Georgia and probably served in the CW - he died in about 1895 in Fannin County GA... which is the county below Union. He would have been an uncle to James. Leslie Thomas V.P. 3. After seeing Wanda's message, I figured I'd ask about my "other" THOMAS branch. Anything on Joseph Harvey THOMAS b. 5 Sep 1805 KY? He married Sarah Ann SIDWELL in Pike Co., MO on 27 Jan 1831. About 1850, they moved north to Wisconsin. According to his son-in-law's biography: "In 1860, Mr. [Milo] Strong was united in marriage with Miss Sarah A. Thomas, a native of Missouri. As her father was a strong anti-slavery man, he moved north in 1850, but was the only one of his family to uphold the Union cause during the Civil War, having four brothers in the Confederate army. His five sons, however, wore the blue and fought gallantly for the old flag, which now floats so proudly above a united nation." I have no idea who the brothers are. 1840 Pike County, MO JH Thomas 2100010000000*11001 Verlinda S. There were 5 households in Pike Co., MO with no township listed in 1840: J. H. THOMAS, Verlinda THOMAS (but there's a male about Joseph's age in it), Edmund THOMAS, James W THOMAS, and R. J. THOMAS. Are these the four brothers of Joseph's? The JH Thomas is Joseph H. THOMAS' family, so that would leave 4. 1850 Benton, Lafayette Co., WI Census Joseph H. 3. Wanda, in all your searching, have you ran across a David Price Thomas b 1822? He had a sister, Isabella Thomas b abt 1833. Think they were both born in TN, but no proof. Since you said you were putting Thomas Families together, I decided to see if you had found any record of them. 3. Do you have any idea where in Virginia Samuel James Thomas was born? I found your information interesting because my Thomas's moved to Claiborne Co TN at about the same time your Samuel did. I know my family was living in Washington Co VA in the late 1700's and up to about 1855, when David and Margaret Barbary Thomas (my gg grandparents) moved to Claiborne Co. TN. They were there for the 1860 census. Before the 1870 census, they had moved to Estill Co, KY. Some of their children married in Claiborne Co., then moved to Estill Co KY. I have recently seen references of other Thomas families moving to Clairborne Co TN and I wonder why? Was there a new source of land, work opportunities, or was it because other family members were there? My David Thomas was born 1808 in Washington Co VA. His father was Lewis Thomas, Sr. b. abt 1760, VA, marr'd Mary Elizabeth Widener in 1787; his father was Reuben Thomas, b abt 1730, 'of' Virginia. Washington Co VA is located in the southwestern wedge of Virginia near KY, TN, and North Carolina, not too far from Claiborne Co TN. I'm willing to share info, and welcome any new clues you might have to offer. On Mon, Feb 18, 2008 at 8:58 AM, <Southearls1@wmconnect.com> wrote: > > > I am looking for Info on my G.G. 3. I'm searching in Kentucky and Virginia, primarily, putting Thomas families together whether they're my direct line or not. This is an effort to sort names into families so that I can weed out those that are not mine. Or, I'm thinking they may all come together as one family further back in the early settlement of our country. Right now, I don't have Jesse in my data base. I do have an Abraham Thomas, born 1770 in Virginia. He died about 1850, Owsley Co, Kentucky. Some of his offspring settled not too far away in Lee, Estill, and Madison Co KY. I don't know the father of this Abraham. Could it be Abraham or Jesse? Abraham, b 1770, married Lucy ?, b. abt 1775, prob. VA, and died after 1850, prob. Owsley Co KY. Their children are Cornelius b. 1800, VA, married Margaret Peggy McQuire of Estill Co KY, marr'd 11 Dec 1823; Isaac Franklin Thomas, b 1805, Madison Co KY, died bef. 1870, Lee Co KY, marr'd Elizabeth Rankin, of Estill Co KY, Marr'd 1840; Joseph Thomas, b 1823, Estill Co KY, married Elizabeth Brewer, b 1826, Hawkins Co TN, married abt. 1850. They had 8 children. I have further info if anyone wants it. The counties of Owsley, Breathitt, Lee, Estill, and Madison are situated in a cluster in east central KY. They were originally part of Madison Co. (I'm pretty sure :o) Abraham and Lucy most likely have several other children as indicated by the large gap in the ages of Isaac and Joseph. Because this is not my direct line, I haven't spent a lot of time actually researching this family. The info I have has been gathered as I merely "come across" it. Additions, corrections are welcome. 3. I don't know if you're only asking Sherry Crawford these questions, but I would certainly like to continue to go back further on my Thomas line. The furthest back I can go is my gg grandfather, Stephen A. Thomas, who was born in North Carolina in about 1798. We don't know what county, though. He married a Jane H. ? (can't seem to find out her maiden name) and she was born in about 1800 in South Carolina. They had a VERY LARGE FAMILY of 14 and they moved to Georgia, the last county they were in being Harris Co., Georgia, before moving to Coosa Co., Alabama. Their son, John Q. Thomas, born about 1833, was my great grandfather. He married Amanda M. Brown, and they moved also to Coosa Co. in 1850. Stephen Thomas was lynched in about 1864, accused of harboring Southern deserters. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance. 3. Last I had heard there was a cousin in Florida who has a copy of it. Would be nice in this technological age to get copies made... would be willing to pay the costs if someone has a copy. It is my understanding that each of these Monroe Thomas documents were made for each of the individual family members and the he did one for the Silver side and one for the Thomas side. They are usually stored rolled up due to their size. I have never seen anything but copies. The archives will be open in July during the Silver Reunion the 4th Sunday of July and the Saturday before - we express it that way because the date is picked from the 4th Sunday and we do a Genealogy Day on the Saturday before. I usually go up on Tuesday or Wednesday of that week and prepare the church. The reunion is the Silver Family Reunion, but if a person researches in Mitchell County, NC or Yancey County, NC then they probably also have Silver family members so over the years we have used this reunion as a time for all of the different family members to get together. It is also the same time as the Decoration Day for the Thomas Family Cemetery that John Mack Thomas and Margaret Alice Parker Thomas are buried. Hope that helps as to the document you are in search of finding. Most of the modern day family members have the information and have never seen the real document. 2. Rose Adams
    3. I just found out that 3rd GG Grandmother Catherine THomas was born in Bertie CO, NC. Her name is Catherine Thomas. She was born aby 1803. She married James Adams abt 1824 and had John Quincy Adams than Samuel Madison Adams and Barsheba Adams in NC there may have been a Josiah and a WIlliam and a Jefferson too that may have died as infants. They went with folks from Clairborne Co TN in a wagon train about 1837 to Ray County MO. These folks settled in the NW corner of Ray county. I am hopeful that I will be able to find a family for Catherine Thomas. Rose Adams
