    2. Jodi Morrison
    3. Just wanted to follow up with everyone & let you know what I have just found out about my THOMAS line-just in case we can find a link (??) Yesterday I received the Death Certificate copy that I ordered from KY of my GGG Grandfather, Samuel Proctor THOMAS. It is hand written, so some things are difficult to read, but the important things are pretty legible. It lists his date of birth as Sept. 14, 1830 in Warren Co., KY & death was April 9, 1916 in Bowling Green, KY. Buried in Fairview Cemetery, KY. Sam's trade or profession was farmer. His father is listed as John THOMAS born in VA, mother is unknown, born in VA. The "Informant" is (I believe) Claud THOMAS of Bowling Green, KY. I wonder if Claud might be a brother of Sam's. Do any of you recognize any of this info? Any knowledge of a John THOMAS born in VA and later moved to KY (at least by 1830)? THANKS for all of your help! Jodi

    3. I am just beginning to search for information about my great grandmother, MARGARET ANN THOMAS, who was born October 21, 1865 in Forest City, IL. The only information I have is that her parents were Samuel K. Thomas (possibly born in Missouri) and Mary Randolph. Margaret Ann married ALBERT MONROE GUILE in Forest City, IL on Sept. 20, 1882. They later lived in Benton, AR, where she died in 1915. Margaret Ann and Albert had 8 children. Does anyone have any information about MARGARET ANN THOMAS, SAMUEL K. THOMAS, MARY RANDOLPH, or other members of this family? Thanks, Cathy Woods Boulder, CO

    3. This is Al Metts in San Antonio and this is my first message to the Thomas List. I descend from a Rev. soldier who was at Valley Forge! He lived in Cumberland County, Virginia. He was Jesse Thomas, b. abt. 1750. He was married to an English gal named Sallie Wood and they had 5 kids. She died and he went to war 1778-9. He came home and married a lady named MARY HOWELL. They had 7 kids. Jesse died and Mary Howell took the kids to Nashville. Now my problem - Jesse Thomas wrote a long will dated 9 March 1805 at Cumberland County, VA. He died there on 2 July 1805 and the will was probated on 22 July 1805. I have a typed version of the will. Does anyone have a copy of the original will or of the old hand written transcriptions found in most of the old Virginia courthouses? Now, my second and last question is, does anyone have any documents of any kind that prove that Jesse married Mary Howell and that Jesse and Mary were the parents of Mary (called Polly) Thomas who married Abner Pillow? I own a copy of the excellent book by Jane H. Thomas, "Old Days in Nashville". It helps, but I do need the items mentioned above. Please help me if you can! Albert C. 3. Gladys, The St. Louis Public library is really great. It has a Genealogy room, the service to have books retrieved from the stacks is fast and the copy machine is cheap. the Genealogy Room is on the main floor. It has a great collection of history and genealogy books. I always take several rolls of dimes and usually use them. There is also a microfilm room in the basement that has the census for all states to 1880 and MO and I think IL for 1900-1920. It also has MO newspapers. the address is 1301 Olive Street (between 13th and 14th Streets). the hours are Mom 10-9, Tues-Sat 10-5. the phone is (314)241-2288. Western Historical Manuscripts is at 8001 Natural Bridge Road, phone (314)516-5143, hours Mon-Fri 8-4:45, Tue. 8-9:00pm. This is on the University of MO campus, Thomas Jefferson Library, 2nd floor. Origional manuscripts, books, etc of the mid-west. If you happen to be traveling through Columbia, Mo, the State Historical Society of MO is on the University of MO campus at 1020 Lowry Street. (573)882-7083, hours Mon-Fri 8-4:30, Sat. 9-4:30. this library has a large reference room containing family histories, county histories, etc. for all states and many countries. It also has a microfilm room with census for all states and newspaper and other publications from many states. Hope this helps. Nancy K.
