    1. THOMAS ROLL CALL
    2. Here is a rundown on my THOMAS: WEST CALN, CHESTER COUNTY, PA I am searching for John THOMAS (b) abt. 1820 who married Sarah DERHAM/DURHAM (b) abt. 1830 married on 24 May 1849 in Chester County. I found the marriage at this web site. <A HREF="http://204.170.102.11/cgi-bin/accessible/verify.pl ">Chester and Delaware County Archive and Newspaper Articles</A> I am also searching for them between 1850 and 1875. As you can see I know where John Durham THOMAS was in 1875, but not his fathers family. I lucked out in the 1850, because of Georgie DURHAM (the obvious brother to Sarah). There were a lot of THOMAS's in Chester County, MD, there are also a lot of THOMAS's in Harford County, MD. I also found in the 1860 census a lot of John THOMAS's married a Sarah, and had a son born in 1852 named John. This was mind boggling. But I am sure Georgie did not live with his sister in 1860, nor did I find a daughter named Hannah. Parents of John Durham THOMAS. All born in Chester County, PA. I was checking the 1850 census and found in West Caln, Chester County, PA: John THOMAS 30 (b) 1820 PA (father) Sarah D. 20 (b) 1830 PA (mother) Hannah 4/12 1850 PA Georgie DURHAM 11 (b) 1839 PA I could not find them in the 1860 census. I am sure that they had several children in the 10 years till the next census. I just have to find it. I do not know of any other siblings at this time, only two, Hannah as shown on the 1850 PA census for West Caln, the other possibly known is Dylan THOMAS (not sure) brother of John Durham THOMAS. My Great Grandfather is John Durham THOMAS (b) 2 FEB 1852 in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Married Sarah Margaret Spies (b) 25 DEC 1852 in Jarrettsville. They married in Jarrettsville, MD, on 22 Aug 1875. They had 11 Children, all born in Maryland: John William THOMAS (b) 31 MAY 1876 married Martha ? Mina Margaret THOMAS (b) 20 MAR 1878 married Albert Schafer Sammy Frederick THOMAS (b) 3 APR 1880 married Ruth Linton Mary Frances THOMAS (b) 3 APR 1880 died 3 days later Martin Spies THOMAS (b) 12 MAR 1882 married Ann Kelly Blakley Katie Henrietta THOMAS (b) 15 SEP 1884 married Henry Korte Clarence Ellias THOMAS (b) 6 FEB 1887 married Carolyn Lela Perry Eadith Jane THOMAS (b) 10 JUL 1889 married William Penn Albert Norman THOMAS (b)16 OCT 1891 married Frances Meisner sister of Josephine Lewis Henry THOMAS (b) 1 JAN 1894 married Josephine Meisner my grandmother Bertha Ester THOMAS (b) 13 SEP 1896 married Russell Breneman I have 95% if the descendants of the above children, if you can be of any help it would be greatly appreciated. 3. Hello Harry Thomas, I have a Job Thomas who lived in Goochland Co., VA, then Cumberland Co. I mentioned to my friend, Judith, that Job Thomas was rare. She sent me the following which may not help you but it may be interesting. ------------------------------------------------- Regarding Job Thomas, there was one who owned 2 slaves in 1782 in Westmoreland Co., VA. There was one who was transported 1667 by Tho. Page, Wm Hodgson & Sam. Weilding. Job had land on so. side Rappa. River, Rapp. Co. This may be the Job who died 1682/3 in Rapp. Co. In "Tenn. The Volunteer State" there is an article about a Job Thomas who was born in England and came in "early colonial days" and settled in VA. The there is the Job who was bc1751 in Northumberland Co., VA. He is mentioned in "They Went Thataway" by Hamlin. There is the Job who married Mary Brickley and died after 31 Oct 1774 Rich. Co., VA. And there's the one who married Rebecca Bait in 1766 in PA. .Happy Thanksgiving. 3. To answer some of the questions about GPS units, read on. 1. The accuracy at present is about 100 meters (which is a little more than 300 feet for you non-metric people). That accuracy will get you real close to a location you are looking for with no problem. 2. My main interest in using this method is to give people a way to find abandoned cemeteries which are not now on present day maps and believe me, there are a lot of them! I am not concerned about major cemeteries so much because they are on most maps. Old topographic maps show a number of abandoned cemeteries but no-where near all of them. 3. It is important to know that two methods of recording positions are commonly used here in the US. One uses Degrees, Minutes and Seconds, written as: 30 deg., 45 min., 30 seconds but the other uses a fractional notation such as: 30 deg., 45.5 minutes which is the same as the location above. A location in Denver, Colorado would be written as: 39 deg. 45.00 N & 105 deg. 00.00 W. Be sure to put a decimal point in if you are using the decimal system or it can be very confusing! 4. I am presently using DeLorme Street Atlas USA, version 6.0. With it, I can put a lat/lon flag on any location and it stores that info. for future reference. You can place any name or words on the map along with the location. I can then print out a map, which shows the flag on it for other people's use, or for me to use if I don't have my notebook computer with me. 5. At the present time, I do not have access to any cemetery records here at my home. Don Fox DonFox@cybertrails.com

    1. GPS Info.
    2. Don Fox
    3. I have a Magellan GPS 2000 XL Satellite Navigator. There are many GPS units (receivers) available from $100 up to whatever you wish to pay. Even the cheapest units are capable of telling you the latitude and longitude accurately enough to find any geographical location if known. They are small, portable, almost pocket size, and operate on internal batteries or 12 volts from your car cig. lighter socket. I use DeLorme Street Atlas USA mapping program to save my locations on a map which I can print out & send a copy to other people if needed. You don't need a mapping program to use the GPS unit. You can just write down the location for future reference if you don't have the program. The mapping program will let you simply find any Lat./ Long. coordinates in the United States of any location you want. If someone gave me coordinates of a cemetery that was out in the woods on a farm in Kentucky, I could go right to it. I have been using my GPS unit and saving this info. for some time now, hoping some other people would start doing the same. I will be happy to answer any questions about this because I want to locate a number of cemeteries yet that seem to be lost! A number of electronics stores such as Radio Shack carry some of these units. Also, some sporting goods stores, since they are good for hikers and hunters to find their way back. I bought mine from K-Mart in the sporting goods section. If you get coordinates on any cemeteries in Madison Co., Kentucky or Pike Co., Illinois, send them to me! Don Fox DonFox@cybertrails.com

Dear List Members: I am a volunteer transcriber for The Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild. I have not finished transcribing my ship list yet but cannot wait to see it. I'm so proud of what a few committed volunteers can do for the world of genealogy researchers. This is to advise you that a new website is being developed by a group called THE IMMIGRANT SHIPS TRANSCRIBERS GUILD. This is a group of over 100 volunteers who have decided to transcribe NARA microfilmed passenger lists so that everyone on the Internet can have free access to such lists. In addition, the GUILD is receiving donations of lists which have already been transcribed; from people on the Internet and from webmasters. The GUILD is also preparing links to many sites dealing with ships and passengers lists throughout the world. There were many Thomas families in I of W Co during the early 1700's and many died intestate making it difficult to separate them. It is very difficult to read because it appears to have been written in Old English. Any help would be appreciated. J. Thomas Wisconsin

    1. Cemetery Locations!
    2. Don Fox
    3. To all of you cemetery hunters out there and to all who will be a cemetery hunter someday, I want to make a suggestion! Buy or borrow a GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) unit. Take it with you to all of the cemeteries you visit and record the latitude and longitude for future reference. I have been doing this and I have a computer map program that I can locate any place just by coordinates. If everyone would do this, and provide the location along with the cemetery inventories, we would all be able to find these even when hidden by trees and brush! Questions, just E-mail me and no, I am not selling these units. Don Fox DonFox@cybertrails.com

    1. Any adoption around 1880-1885
    2. Still looking for ANY info on ANY adoption that took place around 1880-84 My gggrandmother Gracie THOMAS was put up for adoption in TARRANT,CO.TX in 1884 at the age of 4 by her mother Mrs.Annie THOMAS but the adoption records make no mention of biological father just adoptive parents Dick and Nancy Matthews AKA David S. McHERD and Nannie SHAWVER. There were also siblings given away but I know nothing about their names or new families. Gracie was born after the 1880 census so there is no connecting her to a family there. Gracie said she was part Indian but did not say what tribe. I found a death certificate of an 1884 death of an Annie THOMAS buried in the city cem.of Fort Worth TX, I do not know if this is her. Death cert. said she was from MO. Thank you, Brigitte
