Hi, I just wanted to share the following information in case anyone recognizes a set of parents. After about 30 minutes of typing, my connection to Netscape dropped and lost my previous attempt to get this information out to you. Hit the SAVE button - I know, I know! BTW, does anyone know why my two families, the WALLS/WALLACE and THOMSON families rarely married each other? Was there some kind of feud between them? I've been compiling a list of Thomsons with a connection to South Ronaldsay in the Orkney Islands. After 30 years of teaching, I thought I'd seen all the possible variations of the name - my personal favourite is Thomspon- but those creative spellers in the previous centuries have the modern ones beat! The ones I've found are Tamson, Tameson, Tamison, Thomson, Thomison, Thomesone, Thomsone, Thompson, Tomison, Tompson. I know that many of these families have retained the variant spelling but I discovered that one family may have several different spellings, depending on who recorded the event. I also know that first names were similarly treated - today's favourite is Pnellypay!- as well as other last names like Tait/Teat and Norquay/Norqwoy. I have tried to take the information available on Walt Custer's wonderful website at > http://www.cursiter.com/ > and arrange the people into families of Thomson children. I have a list of over 100 families (and I'd typed in about 37 when I lost my last effort!) and if they fit with someone you're researching, please contact me and I'll send you the children's names and birthdates so you can compare them to what you have. The first 19 are children whose parents are both Thomsons or where there is only one parent listed. After that, I list them alphabetically by the mother's last name. The format is this: Mother's full name, Father's given name(s), date of marriage or birth of first child if marriage not known. 1. No Mother Listed (but may be Jean BERSTOUN for abt 1749), Alexander, 1751-59 and also 1851 2. Ann TOMISON, No Father Listed, 1858 3. Betsy THOMSON, NFL (poss. COOLE). 1870 4. NML, David, 1657 5. Elizabeth WOOLDRAGE, William, 1816 Hoo boy, have I ever hit the Save button a lot of times as I did this! I'm researching the family of Malcolm WALLS who married 1. Christian BRUCE and 2. Elizabeth THOMSON and had 3 children with each. He changed his name to Malcom WALLACE part way through the second family! I found something interesting the other day by looking at the census on Walt's site. Malcolm's son, John Thomson WALLACE, and his wife Helen SPENCE had 4 children listed in the WALLACE births text. On the census, it became apparent that this couple had been in Canada, had at least two children and then RETURNED to South Ronaldsay, something I had never thought of. My Christmas present this year was to find a new relative in Wales. Our connection had reversed his second name and family name when he moved to Canada, likely because he had been born illegitimate in England. Made him harder for both of us to find the connection but we did it! I hope you can find some names of interest in here. Let me know if you do. -- Pam Thomson http://www3.bc.sympatico.ca/ Town Square Network
Merry Christmas to the THOMAS list members, In my collateral families database I have a JOHN THOMAS who married LYDIA PARKER January 12, 1670/71. LYDIA was born April 14, 1652, in New Haven, CT, daughter of EDWARD and ELIZABETH (WOOD) PARKER. I show that JOHN and LYDIA had at least on child LYDIA born about 1681. I know nothing about JOHN's parents, siblings, or other children, and if anyone on the list has any information that they are willing to share, it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. I was going through some old files on my computer and turned up your offer to seach the Roll of Honor. I am so glad to find the message. I had 2 great uncles who died in the war. I do not know where either is buried. I tracked down one through a library local library which sent me a copy of those pages from the Roll of Honor. And ever since I have been trying to figure out where to get a copy of the Roll of Honor. So would you see if you can find Hartson F.Thomas, private, Co. K, 23rd Vol. Infrantry, Wisconsin. He died April 4, 1863 at Milliken's Bend, LA, after having been discharged the day before. Why they did that, I do not know. He died of the chronic diarrhea. His brother John W. Thomas is in the roll of honor with an unknown burial site. I suspect that Hartson, if he is in the list (having been discharged, he maya not be???), is also probably in an unknown spot. I'll be most grateful for you search. No rush for this midst the Christmas rush. And happy holidays to you. Pat Smith Brooklyn, NY

Hi--I saw your note regarding Daniel Thomas born in Bristol and was wondering if there could be a connection to my William W Thomas b 1857 in Bristol. His father was Amos Henry Thomas and mother Rachael Elizabeth Prosser. I found William in the US in 1879, but have no information about him prior to that. His wife was Welsh, and considering Bristol's proximity to Wales and the fact that Prosser is a Welsh surname, I have always wondered if they lived there at some time. William was a farmer in the US. Do you have further info on the Bristol Thomas line that might connect us? Thanks you for any help you might provide. Debbie in California
I have been able to trace my mothers ancestors back to Daniel Thomas, father of Daniel Thomas who married Ann Thomas, 8 August 1841 at St. Michael Church, Bristol. They lived in Tregagle, a hamlet of Penalt, Wales My great grandfather was Alfred Daniel Thomas born 6 Oct 1842 and went to the Monmouth Grammer School in Monmouth town If you have any information on these Thomas's who were all shoemakers, I would be grateful.
Hi all I live in Australia, and have enjoyed the list, but almost all are looking in the US. My interests are in Cornwall before 1850s then in Australia. Anyone else? Cheers, Bronwyn ---------------------- Bronwyn King ACT Australia -----------------------
Here is a rundown of what I have on my THOMAS family: WEST CALN, CHESTER COUNTY, PA I am searching for both John THOMAS (b) abt. 1820 who married Sarah DERHAM/DURHAM (b) abt. 1830 Item # 8365, married on 24 May 1849 in Chester County. I found the marriage at the hyperlinked web site below, also the death notice of Hannah Derham. I did find the death notice Item # 7636, of a Hannah Derham (d) 14 Jan 1851, aged 53 and buried in the Methodist Cemetery in West Chester, PA Chester and Delaware County Archive and Newspaper Articles I am also searching for them between 1860 and 1875. As you can see I know where John Durham THOMAS was in 1875, but not his fathers family before 1850. I have John Durham THOMAS's death certificate and on the certificate were his parents name and place of birth. I lucked out in the 1850, because of Georgie DURHAM (the obvious brother to Sarah). There were a lot of THOMAS's in Chester County, MD, there are also a lot of THOMAS's in Harford County, MD. I also found in the 1860 census a lot of John THOMAS's married a Sarah, and had a son born in 1852 named John. This was mind boggling. But I am sure Georgie did not live with his sister in 1860, nor did I find a daughter named Hannah. Parents of John Durham THOMAS. All born in Chester County, PA. I was checking the 1850 census, LDS film 20616, NA Microscopy 432, roll 766, page 274 and found in West Caln, Chester County, PA: John THOMAS 30 (b) 1820 PA (father) Sarah D. 20 (b) 1830 PA (mother) Hannah 4/12 1850 PA Georgie DURHAM 11 (b) 1839 PA I could not find them in the 1860 census. I am sure that they had several children in the 10 years till the next census. I just have to find it. I do not know of any other siblings at this time, only two, Hannah as shown on the 1850 PA census for West Caln, the other possibly known is Dylan THOMAS (not sure) brother of John Durham THOMAS. Here is a rundown of what I have on my John Durham THOMAS, born in Chester County, PA family in: JARRETTSVILLE, HARFORD COUNTY, MD My Great Grandfather is John Durham THOMAS (b) 2 FEB 1852 in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Married Sarah Margaret Spies (b) 25 DEC 1852 in Jarrettsville. They married in Jarrettsville, MD, on 22 Aug 1875. They had 11 Children, all born in Maryland: John William THOMAS (b) 31 MAY 1876 married Martha ? Mina Margaret THOMAS (b) 20 MAR 1878 married Albert Schafer Sammy Frederick THOMAS (b) 3 APR 1880 married Ruth Linton Mary Frances THOMAS (b) 3 APR 1880 died 3 days later Martin Spies THOMAS (b) 12 MAR 1882 married Ann Kelly Blakley Katie Henrietta THOMAS (b) 15 SEP 1884 married Henry Korte Clarence Ellias THOMAS (b) 6 FEB 1887 married Carolyn Lela Perry Eadith Jane THOMAS (b) 10 JUL 1889 married William Penn Albert Norman THOMAS (b)16 OCT 1891 married Frances Meisner sister of Josephine Lewis Henry THOMAS (b) 1 JAN 1894 married Josephine Meisner my grandmother Bertha Ester THOMAS (b) 13 SEP 1896 married Russell Breneman I have 95% if the descendants of the above children, if you can be of any help it would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Carol Chiveral

Anyone interest in those mentioned in the subject line please contact me. I have a newspaper size document that contains their descendants through in mid 1800's. The document in not in good shape but is legible. I will try to get it copied for anyone with a definite tie to it. Thanks Diana Hyde
I am seeking information about a John Thomas who was born in 1775 in Wales (I suspect Caernvonshire) . He died April 8, 1857 in Remsen, Oneida Co., NY He married Jane Pritchard from Ty Howel in Aberdaron. Jane's Obituary listed John as being from Pwll Llwgwr. I have been unable to find Pwll Llwgwr in Aberdaron so I assume he was from a different parish. John & Jane came to the US in 1818. I am interested in knowing his location in Wales and his parents. I would also be interested in writing other Thomas relatives in this line. Pam Anderson
