Can anyone help me find the parents of Elizabeth STEELE (b. 1800) who married James THOMAS (b. Oct. 14,1790), brother of John, and son of Stephen THOMAS (b. Md.? - d. S.C.) and Susannah BENTON (b. N.C,- d. S.C.)? Stephen is the son of Tristram (Tristam?) THOMAS who was believed to have come from WALES on/before 1769 and settled in Maryland. (Yes, there are several Tristrams from that era) Elizabeth may be descended from a North Carolina STEELE family and probably was born in N.C. or upper S.C. in the Pee Dee area, or Darlington Co., where James lived before marriage. James and Elizabeth lived in Olanta, S.C. after marriage and lived in Florence Co. near the Bethel Baptist Church, in which cemetery they are both buried. James' middle name MAY be "Madison", as his son has been referred to as James Madison, Jr. Is there someone in Florence Co. who could do a "look-up" for me in the death certificate files to determine state of birth and whatever alse available on James and Elizabeth, or refer me to the correct address to write for a copy? I am a little far removed from that area to make a visit. Information on both Steele and Thomas family are needed and would really be much appreciated! All responses will be gratefully replied to. I have a lot of "downstream" family to contribute, if anyone is interested. My apologies to any list readers who receive multiple copies, as I have sent this plea to several area lists. Hello fellow listers! Lately I have been getting email asking if I know of any other sites like the ones I posted for IN and ID Marriage Index. I have stumbled across a site that might be able to help many of you: Vitals.html at www.geocities.com. If this can't help you, I'm sorry. I do not know of any other sites like the ones mentioned above, at this time. Good luck, Jennifer
I figure most of you probably have the IN MARRIAGE INDEX (http://www.statelib.lib.in.us/www/indiana/genealogy/mirr.html) already, but thought I'd pass it on for those newbies. Also, there's a searchable ID Index to marriages, (http://abish.ricks.edu/fhc/gbsearch.asp) that might be of help to some of you. Just thought I'd pass them along. Jennifer
