Hi List. I have been working on my family tree for a couple of years now with limited success. I am trying to track down information on my great grandfather (James George Thomas) born Mar 1857 Gurnsey , channel islands, UK. He married Rachel (unknown maiden name)born Jun 1857 little bay islands NFLD. They had at least 5 children. Edward born Jan 1889, George born Apr 1891, Cambell (my grandfather) born May 1893, Albert born Jan 1896, Cas W. born Dec 1899. all were born in Boot Hr NFLD. I have a fairly good grip on Cambell's family ( he married Catherine Verge daughter of Selby and Louise Verge. If anyone has information on any branches of this family or would like some of the information that i have gathered please contact me via E-mail. Thank-you for your time. Anthony Thomas. I was born on 21 july 1963 in Springdale NFLD. my Father Howard Wilson Fredrick Thomas is the youngest son of Cambell and Catherine (nee Verge) Thomas who married my mother Frances Udora (nee Organ) of Norris Point NFLD. I also have information on my mothers family ( the Organ (also spelled Orgen in the 187? census of bonne bay) family of bonne bay and the Mitchelmore family of Green Island Cove NFLD.
Judi and Wynnelle: Please forgive me for intruding into your messages, but one of you might be able to help me. I have just received a message informing me that an ancestor of mine, Elizabeth Steele (1800-1859) who married James F. Thomas (1790-1864), lastly of Clarendon Co., was the daughter of John Steele, Sr. and the sister of Catherine, James, John Jr., Mary, and Sarah. All probably from Darlington Co., S.C. at one time. James and Elizabeth (Steele) Thomas died in Olanta, Florence Co., S.C. Is it possible that this John Steele, Sr. (b. abt. 1760-1775) might be related to the John Steele that you both are descended from? A not- uncommon name, I know, but thought I would try. Because of the Darlington Co. location, it is also possible these Steeles were from N.C. I am looking for information on the ancestry of William Burnice/Bernice Thomas b. 4 Dec 1859 in Copiah CO., died Sept 1951 in Hattiesburg MS. He married Mrs.Sarah Fairchild Smith in 1880 in Copiah and they had the following children: Troy, Joseph Franklin and Ernest. Troy remained in MS., Ernest married a Polly ? and moved to CA. Joseph married Mamie Womack of MS. They later moved to Shreveport, LA and had 5 daughters and 1 son. Sarah had a daughter, Theodosia (Docie) by her first husband, William Smith. Docie married a Baggett and had 2 sons, Charlie and Fred. Any information on any of the above or their descendants would be appreciated. Thanks, Peggy Choate
Mardella, THANK YOU! I've be on this list for over a year, looking for a clue which you gave by your posting today. TERRIFIC! You stated "....This is what I have: John Thomas b. Wales, 1763, came to America 1773. m. Sarah Owen Harrison County Virginia Mary Thomas (their 7th child) m. Henry Thomas (Her first cousin!) They were the first permanent white settlers in Bureau County, Illinois. Austin Thomas b. November 28, 1826 Illinois, d. 1896. m. Amelia Thummel May 23, 1850. They had 9 children........" I am also a descendant of John THOMAS and Sarah OWEN by their daughter Elizabeth THOMAS, b. Jun 20, 1796 Harrison Co VA. She married John Luff (or Lupt) MEREDITH Sep 16, 1816 in Champaign Co OH. There were 4-5 John THOMASes in Champaign Co during that time, so have been unable to sort out which one was the real father, and where he went from there. I suspect, though, that Esther THOMAS, who married one of John Luff Meredith's brothers, Joseph Busby MEREDITH, Apr 1, 1823 in Miami Co, OH, was another of his daughters. The J.P. who officiated at both marriages was listed as John Thomas, J.P. Am very interested to hear what documentation or details you have on John Thomas' migration, their other children, and if you have anything on Sarah Owen's ancestry. I am researching the line of Thomases noted below. According to what I have, Giles Thomas (1763-1842) of the Baltimore/Harford Counties area enlisted in the Maryland Militia at age 16 and continued with General Green's command until Yorktown. His sons moved to the Valley of Virginia, and Giles spent his later years with his son in Blacksburg, Virginia. "Family history" indicates that the line from Giles Thomas to the present is probably accurate, but I am eager to have confirmation of that and of my efforts on the older generations. My information about the Thomas wives is especially in need of help. I look forward to any help you can offer. Thanks. Hi everyone, I'm new to this list so here goes. I've been trying and trying to find the parents of Sarah "Sally" Jane Thomas b. ca. 1816 who married Thomas Jefferson Anderson in Nelson Co. in 1833. Looking at the names of their children, it appears that the first girl was named after Sarah and Thomas' mothers and their first boy after their fathers. The first girl was named Mary (which was Sarah's mothers name) Elizabeth (which was Thomas' mother's name). The first boy was named William (again Thomas' father's name) James (supposition that this is Sarah's father's name). Now, in 1824 a Will was filed in Albemarle Co. for Michael Thomas Jr. (son of Michael Thomas and Miss Lewis). In this will he mentions Polly, Jame's widow and James second daughter Sally. Mary, Sarah's mother was also known as Polly in the census. ' Sarah Thomas also had a sister, Mary Thomas Jr. b. ca. 1820 who never married. Mary Thomas Sr. lived next to and then with Thomas Jefferson Anderson and his wife from 1850 on. They lived in Nelson Co. during 1830, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880 census with a time in Albemarle Co. for the 1840 census. Sarah Jane Thomas Anderson died in Nelson Co. between the 1850 and 1860 census. Can anyone shed some more light on the James & Polly Thomas family? Thanks, Debra Miller fortlong@shentel.net

Hello everyone, This is my very first posting here, so I hope I do this right. If not, please let me know. I am researching my dads, mothers side of the family. My grandmothers name was Bonnie Ruth Thomas, her parents were Samuel Spear Thomas and Nancy Ann Leopard. There has been questions arise about whether is name was Samuel or Simeon, all his headstone says is S.S. Thomas. He was born 12-9-1878 and died 1-23-23. I don't know where he was born but he is buried at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Lavonia GA. His wife, Nancy Ann Leopard was born 7-4-1879 died 7-3-1966 and is also buried at Pleasant Hill Baptist. I don't know where she was born. My grandmother was one of many children. Not in order of birth there was: Bonnie, Rose, Florene, Annie, Mae, Lola, Ruby, Lucille, Clint, Bud, Darby, and Ralph. These are the only ones that I know of and could be more. I do not know any names of Samuel's siblings nor any dates. Please, if anyone has any information on this family line, would you please contact me? I appreciate any help that you may have. Thank you very much. Pam Caracol
Sarah Catherine Thomas was born on 7 February 1832 and married Rev. Isaac Morse Stagg on 2 July 1848 in St. Joseph County, Indiana. She d. 10 March, 1851. Rev. Stagg then married her younger sister, Marial Thomas who was born on 12 February, 1834 in Batavia, NY and d. 14 January, 1891 in Albuquerque, NM. I am searching for information about the parents of Sarah Catherine and Marial Thomas.
Responding to Sue Howard of Feb12. It may be a long shot but my Thomas line in North Florida has Simmons (as in a Margery SIMMONS wed to Jacob Geiger ca 1827 Fla or GA), and Wilson (as in Louisa Wilson, September 28, 1848 in Middleburg, Clay County,Florida), connected. Thomas from SC (or so we are told) sometime before 1825.

I agree that this is quite a project and would be extremely useful. My only concern is: will this be freely accessed on the web OR will it be collected from you and me and THEN SOLD TO YOU AND ME. I will not submit any of my info to ANYONE until I know for sure how it will be used. I would like to hear from others about this type of request or subject. I know a friend submitted some info to a request and they allowed all information to be reviewed (she did a Ged which also included all notes and there was personal info included in that file). I want to share with all those I know are interested in honest research but am very wary. Betty in Idaho USA
