Does anyone out there have info on the family of Jordon Thomas, he had a daughter named Nancy Thomas who later married Green Hill Jr. son of Green Hill Sr. The Hill line is descendants of Robert Hill and Sion Hill, they were from the Isle of Wight, Halifax, Franklin, etc. I will galdy share the info I have on this line, Nancy Thomas Hill died before she was 30, she had a son named Jordon Hill who later married a Mary Green, the inturn had a daughter named Hannah Loiuse Hill who later married Marmaduke Norfleet Jeffreys. I have this line back to the 1600's. Jordon Hill was the senator of Franklin , NC. form 1799 up until 1804, Thanks Vickie
Sarah, aka Sallie, Thomas is a very common name among the Michael Thomas line in Virginia and Kentucky. Several of the Thomas grand and great-grand children were named Sarah Thomas. My own direct ancester from the Thomas line, was named Sarah Thomas. She was the daughter of Plummer Thomas and married John Viers. Sue
Recently I discovered a listing for the Willis Cemetery in Marshall County, OK. for a C. H. THOMES b. Oct 15, 1849, d. Apr 6, 1913 There is also listed a Sallie THOMES, no dates for her. My great grandfather was John Milton THOMAS b. 1863 unk. d. 1894 in Grayson Co. Tx across Red River from Marshall County, OK. He was buried in Grayson Co. He was married to Lucinda Fairbelle BRADY, daughter of Joseph J. Brady (he is also buried in this Willis Cemetery) and Almeda Butler from Wayne Co. TN. Their daughter, my grandmother, was Ora Avalene Thomas. John Thomas and his wife Lucinda died and the kids were left orphans. They were raised by relatives. I had corresponded with a cousin of my grandmother's, Lucille Dickerson, who lived in Willis, OK. She told me that my grandmother was raised by Aunt Sallie and Uncle Charley Hayes. She also told me that she thought Thomas was spelled differently. Does anyone know if Thomas and Thomes are variations of the same name. I looking for any tidbit of information on my John Milton Thomas, who his parents and siblings were, where they were from, and how the Thomas, Brady, Hayes and Dickerson were connected. Any info will be apprreciated. Thanks. Sharon Boyd Jung Fredericksburg, TX fbgtitle@ktc.com
Date: Wed, 09 Jun 1999 08:07:07 -0400 From: John Blankenbaker <johblank@pipeline.com> To: GERMANNA_COLONIES-L@rootsweb.com Subject: (629)Germanna Colonies, History of The six hundred and twenty-ninth note in a series on the Germanna Colonies In note 612, the story of Abraham Thomas, taken from his own words, was told. I decided he was born about 1756 and that he drove the sheep for his father up to Ten Mile Creek when he about 13 years of age. (He was assisted by older brother.) Thus, his arrival might have been about 1769. The story reads that his father (who would be Michael) had purchased land there and presumably moved there, perhaps in 1770. Abraham said that the year he drove the sheep he already had relatives in the area. The relatives in the area were probably the Hupps who had moved from Culpeper County. In particular, Margaret Thomas had married Everhart Hupp. Margaret was the older sister of Abraham. One author, says that the Hupps, Bumgarners, and Teagardens moved from Virginia to Ten Mile Creek about 1766. These families are among the earliest to file for land in this area. The Rows were another early family from Culpeper. When Philip Hupp died in Culpeper County in 1761, he named his wife Elizabeth and Henry Ayler as executors. Henry Aylor had married Margaret Thomas, the sister of Michael Thomas. Thus there may have been a closer connection between the Thomas family and the Hupp family than the Margaret Thomas (niece of the preceding Margaret) to Everhard Hupp marriage indicated. The Hupps remained in Pennsylvania and Virginia and did not go on to Kentucky at this time. Everhard and Margaret Hupp had eleven children. Margaret was said to have the major hostess of the region who served meals to all manners of people. George Washington is said to have visited on a trip to the region. The claim is made that Margaret was the first white woman west of the Monongahela River. Whether these stories have any basis in fact is difficult to say but it is clear, as following notes will tell, that the Thomas family was very early on the western frontier including the region which became Kentucky. Other Culpeper families were also in the vanguard to the west. To all: I have been reading all of the recent posts concerning the Germanna family line of John Thomas with a great deal of interest. Am I correct in understanding that the theory is that ALL of this family line moved on to Pennsylvania and Kentucky by the time of the American Revolution? Did NONE of the very numerous Thomas males stay in the geographic area now consisting of the Virginia counties of Culpeper, Orange, Albemarle, Madison, and Greene? If so, then by inference, would not all Thomas males appearing in the 1790 Census in this part of Virginia be non-German? The reason for my question is that I have a Thomas family line that I have been able to trace back to the marriage in Albemarle County on March 27, 1810 of William Thomas (b. abt. 1790) and Jerusha Jopling (b. abt. 1790). Thanks in advance, Jim
I just wanted to remind people that there was a very large German line of THOMAS families descended from Michael THOMAS of the Germanna Colony in Culpeper Co., VA. He had a very large family, some say as many as 25 children, many of them sons. Some of his sons went to Pa., others went to Eastern Ky (Mason and Lewis Counties). While there was some research claiming that the Mason/Lewis Co. THOMAS families were actually of English descent, the Germanna Records (which are extensive) demonstrate this is in error. If you have THOMAS families which you cannot connect, try checking out the Germanna Records. I've found the GERMANNA-L list to be of exceptional help, especially since one of the members has a huge file of information and is writing a complete history of the colony. Sue
Hi All, I'm searching for information on this family of Thomas' of Porth, Rhondda Valley, Wales JOSEPH THOMAS m. ANNE EVANS dates unknown children(that I know of) WILLIAM JOSEPH THOMAS b. 1863-d.1910 married SARAH JACKSON 1865-1920 in PORTH WILLIAM was a miner in both Wales and Scranton, PA He was injured in a mining accident. They had the following children; WILLARD EDMUND SOPHIA (THOMAS) PARKER MARTHA (THOMAS) BELL MAUDE (THOMAS) HAWKINS GWEN ( THOMAS) HARTSHORN They lived in the Factoryville/Scranton area of PA, USA Both Edmund were in the medical field. I have been trying for some time to locate the ancestors of Peter Thomas, died abt 12-23-1789 at Bethel Twp., Berks Co., PA. He was married to Eva Marie Sip. They had 10 children. He was German. I have suspected that the family may have come through Schoharie, NY and then to Tulpehocken, Berks Co., but have found no substantiation of that. I've also wondered, with the significant number of German Thomas folk stopping off in Ireland if he has somehow gotten buried in a Welsh or Irish line somewhere. Does anyone have this Thomas? He is a direct ancestor and I really would like to be able to move past him back to Germany. Any and all help appreciated! Mark Thomas

I was trying to find a way in without using the IP address. That turns out to be the from the LVA genealogy home page at http://leo.vsla.edu/archives/genie.html The Digital Library is the second item and that has the URL of http://image.vtls.com/ and the electronic cards are http://image.vtls.com/#cards I don't have problems with the dot notation. It is just that I remember the name notation better. I also try to use name address because places will occasionaly change their ISP, which changes their network IP address but the name remains the same. I had been here before when I was looking up something for Daniel Thomas and had forgotten about it until I was at the genealogy web page. All I can say is that it keeps getting better.
