I knew I should have said more. W.H. Thomas was born in N.C. shortly after his parents came from Virginia and settled. His father drownwd in a river before William was born. Hewas named chief of the Cherokee Indians after their chief had diedand he always worked for them and their rights. He also served in the war between the states.I always thought we might be related because my grandfather was named William Holland Thomas Dillard at a time when W.H.T. had gained in popularity. Also, his wife was a cousin to my grandfather and there were other coincidences. His parents were Richard thomas and Temperance Calvert of Virginia, where all my Dillard family came from. 1. Re: [THOMAS] Migration pattern/paths
    2. Thanks for calling attention to the migration site. It illustrates much of what I had observed abt. my Yankee ancestors: CT, NY (maybe Vt), WI, and finally IA. And the Yankees were shrewd. They got to Wisconsin first and got all the good land. The Germans (one gggrandfather) arrived late and wound up on the hillsides. What that guy went to Iowa, he knew better and wound up with flat, black, rich soil. pat smith brooklyn, ny

    1. [THOMAS] Whites Among the Cherokees
    2. Waka or Rod
    3. I just rec'd a copy of this book yesterday, its a reprint and lists names of hundreds of whites living in Cherokee lands in North Georgia from 1827-1838 when permits were required to live in Cherokee territory. The permits and records collected by the Indian agents and officials at that time were very detailed and actually covered the entire northern part of the state of Georgia from Cobb and Paulding Counties north. It is suprizing the amount of information garnered by the author of this work. Anyway more to the point... it also lists those whites "married" to Indians. Gold had been discovered in the lands occupied by the Cherokees and many whites were granted temporary claims to work the land by the Georgia government. If anyone on this list wants me to look up a name... I'll be glad to do so. Even if you don't think they were in Georgia, remember some came to escape the removal, some passed for white, some came long enough to work the mine claims and then left to head west. Those THOMAS names listed are: Evan Evin J.H. Jemima Jesse Jessee John Joseph Lemuel Leonard P. Sam'l Samuel William Leslie Thomas All emails from this address are certified Virus Free by Norton's Virus Scanner... 1. [THOMAS] Amary Thomas
    2. <PRE>In my line of Thomas, I have three men in three generations named Amary Thomas. The first one I know of was my 4th great grandfather, Amary, born 1801, Cheddar, Somerset, England. His wife was Anna. This couple had at least six children, including a son named Amary, born abt. 1843 in Cheddar. He married a woman named Dorcas. The third Amary I know of in this same Thomas family is the son of Arthur Thomas and his wife (Louise or Elizabeth). This Amary was born in 1891 in New York State, after his parents both immigrated from England and then married in NY in 1888 or '89. I'd like to communicate with others related to any of these Amary Thomases.

    1. [THOMAS] Martha May Thomas
    2. Paula&Donny
    3. I am still Looking for MY THOMAS connection. There is very little that I know about them. Here is what I do know: Martha May THOMAS married Robert Stewart LEMON Sr. on April 17,1877 in Bonham Fannin County Texas. She was born April 12,1858 in Missouri( according to LEMON family researchers) Martha May died on Dec.28,1901 in Pecan Gap Delta County Texas of childbirth. Martha May THOMAS LEMON gave birth to a total of 15 Children. On the Census of 1880 Delta County Texas she is listed as age 43.On the Census of 1880 Martha lists her parents as born in United States no help there. On the census of 1900 Logan County Arkansas Martha May THOMAS was listed as born April 1855 aged 45 and her parents were born in Missouri. Martha May THOMAS was reported to be the child of Willie THOMAS and Lena ? I can't locate a Willie or any variation there of in Missouri in the right time peroid to be her parents. I also was told ( family story) that her THOMAS family were well to do and had a large ranch in east Texas. I have a nice tin type photo of what may be her mother. It was told to my Grandmother (daughter of Arminta Lemon, who was daughter of Martha May THOMAS) that it was Martha May but it is of a much older woman than Martha May THOMAS would of been in the Civil War when these type pictures were made. If you can help find Willie and Lena or tell me Martha was the daughter of someone else please, please contact me. Paula Jones [email protected]

They had one known daughter, Iona, who was born around 1888, in Washington. James passed away in Washington on April 14, 1924, at which point he was cremated and his ashes were spread over the bay.
