DB36:87 Bedford County, VA On 31 Jan 1853 Archibald THOMAS of Lawrence County, Ohio bought land on the waters of Elk Creek in Bedford County, Virginia from John SOWARDS, & Lucy B. SOWARDS, his wife, and Peter SPEARS and Martha C. SPEARS, his wife of Lawrence County, Ohio; their one fifth interests. Does anyone know what family this Archibald THOMAS is from? Ray Parker as a witness with Joseph Longstreth and Joseph's wife Susanna. > > Joseph Longstreth bought the Benjamin Gilbert property in now Carbon County in 1783. The Gilbert family were taken by the Indians while in Carbon County, and upon the release and return of the famlily to Bucks County, Longstreth and Robert McDaniel went to Carbon to rebuild the mill on the Gilbert property. Robert settled there and married an Elizabeth Hicks, parents unknown, who is stated to have been born in 1766 in Penn Twp., now Carbon County PA. I can find no information about Elizabeth Hicks, stated to be a Quaker in the history book, prior to her marriage though the text states she was placed with William Thomas of Bucks County PA. William Thomas, grandson of the Baptist minister of Hilltown PA, bought property in Penn Twp. upon the sale of the property of another William Thomas, son of Richard Thomas of Hilltown, Bucks Co., which property was located in Northampton, now Carbon, after the latter William's property was confiscated in 1776 for Tory activities. We still ! > do not know if Elizabeth was with the Tory William or the Hilltown Baptist minister's grandson, although the Quaker religion mention for Elizabeth leads more toward the Tory William Thomas, as he was a Quaker and the latter owner a Baptist. > > To further confuse the issue, Elizabeth Hicks, name stated as Hicks in the Matthews and Hungerford volume, is given as an Elizabeth Johnson in her daughter's burial information located at the Lehigh County Historical Society, Rev. Bauer's records. > > If anyone has any information on the parents of Robert McDaniel of Bucks County there approximately from 1766 thru 1783, or of the origins of the Elizabeth Hicks or Johnson who became his wife, please contact me. The most probable origins of Elizabeth Hicks may be located in the Richland Twp. area of Bucks County, likely with the George Hicks family there, but to date I have found no information which connects here with them. > > Judy McElderry > > > ==== PABUCKS Mailing List ==== > Contact Listowner ar [email protected] > Bucks Co Surnames http://www.rootsweb.com/~pabucks/surnamepageA.html > List Rules http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~myplace/mailing.html > Bucks Co. Thomas Listers -- This just appeared on the Bucks County PA list, and I was gratified to see that there is a Thomas family described in the second paragraph. Bucks County is where my Thomases came from, but they're quite scarce in genealogy records from there. Hope this helps someone else looking in Bucks County, too! My ancestor is a Robert McDaniel, b. Aug. 24, 1756 in Maine who came to Philadelphia with at least his father, possibly mother and siblings. The text in Matthews and Hungerford's 1884 edition of "The History of Lehigh and Carbon Counties, Pennsylvania" states that Robert was apprenticed by his father to Joseph Longstreth of Philadelphia, (Then Philadelphia County). I have found a will mention of Robert McDaniel in the will of Mary Kirk dated 1782, in which Robert appears as a witness with Joseph Longstreth and Joseph's wife Susanna. > > Joseph Longstreth bought the Benjamin Gilbert property in now Carbon County in 1783. I'm searching for information which links Charles M. Thomas, b. about 1865, (married to Julia Tennison) as the son of Marion Pinkney Thomas, b. 1841 AL. The 1880 Buffalo, Craighead Co., AR census lists Charles M. Thomas as a son of M. P. Thomas. Charles M. Thomas and Julia Tennison had three known children surviving to adulthood, all believed to be born in Jonesboro, Craighead Co., AR: Emma 1887; Eugene James 1888; and Marion 1892. Julia Tennison Thomas died in the mid 1890s; and, Charles M. Thomas married a second time to an unknown spouse. Children from Charles M. Thomas' second marriage were: Clarence M. 1898 AR; Mary 1900 Oklahoma Indian Territory; and, Jim M. 1902 Oklahoma Indian Territory. Family tradition has Clarence M. Thomas being born near Pocahontas, Randolph Co., AR. Charles M. Thomas moved to Oklahoma Indian Territory about 1900 and died about 1905. Any assistance would be appreciated. Kindest Regards, Jim Young
