I am searching for the husband, in-laws and parents of Judy Thomas who is listed at 57 years old in household #159 in the Pike County, Alabama 1850 Census. Judy is listed as head of household living with several of her children. Thanks. Rex Jones
Does anyone on this this mail list have a list of the children of Evan Thomas Jr who married Albanah Ross (daughter of Alexander Ross). Their children would probably have been born after 1740 as Albanah is said to have been born 10 Nov, 1720. I think that there is a good chance that they would have been living near Hopewell MM. Marsha in WV
Frances Thomas was wife of John Thomas. She was born 1839 as Frances Fick, daughter of George Fick. Her mother was Mary Ann (Thompson), who by a prior marriage had two children, Josiah and ? born in the mid-1820s. I am searching to find any information on these two step siblings of Frances. THank you.

Hi, my ggg grandmother CHARLOTTE THOMAS was born c1826 and married WILLIAM MCKELVEY (McKelvie). William was born in Ireland and came to New Zealand with the 65th Regiment. They eventually settled in Wellington and Charlotte died there in 1860. Unfortunately her death certificate is before the time when a person's parents/birth place were listed so I know very little about her. Thanks for any help anyone can give me. Kind regards, Megan Rodden Wellington, New Zealand ___________________________________________ John Gardiner & Megan Rodden 8 Halswater Drive, Churton Park, Wellington 6004, NZ 64-4-4770-206 e-mail [email protected]
I received the massive Civil War pension file from NARA on David Thomas b 1838, Bradley Co., TN. Son of Wilson and Tresa Thomas. I do not see his parents listed in the file at all, but still need to go through it carefully, page by page. David Thomas died on August 15, 1908 at his home in Sale Creek, TN. A John Thomas signed Nov. 21st 1908 attesting to the fact that Martha Thomas was married to David and was present at their marriage at Bill Days house in Bradley Co. John Thomas might be David's younger brother, my John T. Thomas b 1846, although the affidavit was signed in Walker Co., GA in 1908. I think my John and Sarah Elizabeth Welch Thomas were in Rhea Co. 1900 census. But some of their children lived in Rossville, GA. Very possible John was there too. Another affidavit testifying on behalf of David for his pension was signed by J. B. Thomas, of Sale Creek, TN in 1890 and was David's neighbor. Another neighbor in Sale Creek, Jas. E. Cunningham, M.D., signing also Dec 23, 1890. Martha Thomas' Declaration for Widow's Pension, 19 September 1908, states she was 74 yrs of age and she was married under the name Martha Burton/Burten by Press Simmons, J.P. in July of 1862. David Thomas died on August 15, 1908 at his home in Sale Creek, TN. This was signed and attested to by W. D. Thomas and Florence Thomas. They had known Martha for 33 years and 18 years respectively. (Not sure who W. D. and Florence Thomas are.) Further documentation revels David and Martha were married July 11, 1862. Martha Thomas was dropped from the Pension rolls upon her death, June 24, 1914. Lived, RR #1 Sale Creek, TN. The question is asked -"Have you any children living, David answers, "Yes. 9" David lists only eight children in this 1897 questionnaire from the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Pensions. (Apparently son John was missed. I checked 1880 census.) Charles born Dec. 8th 1863 Marget Thomas Born Apr 30 1866 Wm. Thomas Feb 2nd 1869 Geo. I will keep on reading through this Civil War information. David evidently had some problems with his health and applied for claims relating to his health. It is amazing the detailed information on his health problems from the doctors that examined him. He was a little guy, 5' 7 3/4", darker skin, brown eyes, steel colored hair when he was 62 yrs. old. I don't see anything conclusive that this David is the son of Wilson and Tresa Thomas, but I feel that there is enough information combined from the records I do have that this David is Wilson and Tresa Thomas' son. I hope someone can connect with our Thomas line. HI Everyone. I was going through some old boxes of my grandmother's (in the hopes of finding some pictures of my family) and came across two pictures.....One of a man and another of a young child (perhaps 3-8 years of age, I believe female) They were professionally framed but I was able to pull out the glass part enough without damaging them and on the child's it says "Han JR Thomas Richmond Indiana 1861" written in pencil. The man appears to be of the same family just because I see some similarities. If anyone has any information regarding that name please let me know. I was thinking maybe it was short for Hannah but I really don't know. I'll post this to the Wayne county list also. Thanks, Heather
THOMAS - 02/09/02 - - Looking for early residents of Greene County. There follows information for Jeremiah Thomas from Edgefield, SC. I visited Greene County at the county seat in Eutaw across from Scooba while at a family reunion several years ago. These Thomas' are on the census and I've traced them to Scooba. I'm trying verify the name of William A. Thomas wife. It's shown on his sons death certificate as Polly Roaden. Most of my Thomas bunch were from around Edgefield and I think over into Savannah, GA. Seeking information on Jeremiah Thomas, place of Birth and parents. Through a lease Jeremiah Thomas of the state of GA, planter, was present in Edgefield County, 96 Dist, SC in Oct 1795. Sold land granted to him in Oct 1794 on Little Steven's Creek and waters of the Savannah River. His name appears on the SC 1800 census. Jeremiah Thomas served in the Revolution during 1778 under a Capt. Anderson Thomas and 1782 under Capt. Robert Frost in SC. Note in the Audited Accounts 7725. I believe he had at least two sons, Joshua, b 1799 and Jeremiah 1800 something. Joshua was my GGGrandfather he is shown in Greene County, in Jones and Gandrud Records on pages 82 & 83, Vol. 94 or 108. My GGrandfather was William A. Thomas born in Green Cty, AL in 1829 and Grandfather was Charles William Thomas b Scooba, Kemper Cty, MS, in 3-10-1863 where he married Sallie Frances Blair in 1890 and moved to Houston, TX where he worked for the Southern Pacific RR. Joshua and Jeremiah were present in Scooba, Kemper Cty, MS, in the mid/late 1800s. Joshua at age 71 married to a Narcissa with a son David on the 1870 census. I have these Thomas's in Texas to date. There was a Josiah (John) Thomas at the Red Bank Baptist church on the little Saluda River in Edgefield Dist before 1792. He was on the 1790 census for Edgefield Dist, SC. Thought these names might be of the same family somehow. There was a Reverend John Thomas in that area of SC that is credited with some 12 children that lived to become adults. During the course of year, he had at least two wives and lived to a very old age. This dates back to prior to the Revolutionary War. This Reverend Thomas is most aptly the father or grandfather to the Thomas families in that area of SC. And, check your history references. Prior to the War of 1812, very few settlers were stupid enough to cross the Ocmulgee River at Dames Ferry in Jones Co...... The settlers, that did, met with dire consequences; if the Creek didn't slaughter them between the Ocmulgee and the Chattahoochee, the Choctaw did over in what is now Alabama. BEFORE Alabama WAS Alabama, it was just a part of Georgia. Check the date of division for a clear date of Alabama coming into existence. LISTERS, We now believe that our B. C. Thomas (Budd) b 1852 in GA was the son of Mathew H Thomas and Martha A. Mansfield who were m in Decatur Co. GA 3 Feb 1848. Living next to Mathew (b ca 1823) in the 1850 Census of Decatur Co was Bird C. Thomas b ca 1798 and his wife Liddy that we think to be the father of Mathew. We have no documation except the census and marriage record. Any informaion would be appreciated. Sarah
I am new to the Thomas list. Here is my for sure Thomas ancestor: Sarah Thomas who married George McKinsey. The facts that I know for sure are that they lived in Newberry County, SC probably as early as 1780. I think that Sarah died before the rest of the family left SC. This is what my data base says: We do not know the date of Sarah McKinseys death. She was alive 24 September 1807. On this date she appeared in Newberry Co. SC to sign a deed of sale, and to relinquish her dower rights to this land. We do know she had died prior to the departure of the family to Ohio, and was buried in SC. The family moved to Ohio with the mass exodus of the Quakers from the south to Ohio, Indiana, etc in the first decade of the 1800's. I know for sure that Sarah had a brother named Nehemiah. My data base says the below: > She was the sister of Nehemiah Thomas, this fact was brouhgt out by the finding of the will of Nehemiah Thomas, ref. Newberry County, SC Wills by Summer, page 387. Nehemiah made his will 15 May, 1796 and died the same year, leaving bequests to several nephews, including a bequest to nephew, Nehemiah McKinsey, son of George and Sarah McKinsey. Further records show the closeness of the Thomas and McKinsey families when > Abigail Thomas, Nehemiahs widow, shows up in Ohio. George sold her fifty acres of his farm on 4 January 1816. SHe in turn died 3 June 1821 age 81 years. ref Quaker records, Ohio, vol. 5, page 131. She left a will, and her entire estate to George McKinsey and his ten children, namely, David, Mordecai, Abigail, Mary, Samuel, Nehemiah, Sarah, George, Naomi, and Patrick McKinsey. Will probated 7 August, 1821, will said, aunt by law. What I found tonight that prompted my joining this list and writing is the following: Joseph Thomas, farmer and carpenter, .....born in Montgomery Co. Ohio....son of Isaiah and Elizabeth Cox Thomas who were born in SC--his father July 30 1791 his mother Oct 2, 1795 Grandfather John Thomas was born in SC March 10 1766 and was a son of Issac and Mary (Davy) Thomas, who were also born in SC I believe that this man is a brother to my Sarah Thomas. Can anyone give me more information about this family? Marsha in WV
