Hi there, I'm at a standstill with my THOMAS Family. Here is the information I have: James R. THOMAS b. 1845 Ontario. He lived mainly in Lobo Ontario, Middlesex County. According to 1891 Census, James mother was listed as from the United States, his father from England. There is a Thomas family in the 1851 Lobo Census but the Initials aren't readable. One is stated as from the United States. I did find the old thread in the following THOMAS genforum: Rees THOMAS born Apr 5, 1821, son of John THOMAS and Martha POWELL. Rees married Aug 27, 1852 at Pembrey, Wales to Ann SOLOMON, born Oct 15, 1827, Pembrey, daughter of George SOLOMON and Mary ERASMUS Children, born Llanelli, Carmarthenshire,Wales: Margaret,Oct 11, 1853 and John,Dec 4, 1855. Family emigtated on July 2, 1857 to Lobo Twp. Middlesex Co. near London, Ontario, Canada, where Martha, Shadrach, Lydia and Hannah were born. In 1870, family moved to Kenockee Twp. St. Clair Co., MICHIGAN, USA. I would love to find this author, but there's never been a reply. I don't think James R. Thomas knew much about his parents, they might have died while he was young. On his death registration, filled out by his son, there was no information about James parents, giving the impression that perhaps his son didn't know that information. If the first son is normally named after the father's father, it could be Samuel THOMAS (James Thomas' first born son's name b. 1868 Lobo Ontario) James R. Thomas married Catherine Paul in Lobo Ontario. I have much of this information, just nothing on James R. Thomas's parents!! This is my brick wall. Tina, I don't have any information on your Thomases, but several other lines I trace go through Connecticut and my lines intermarried with lines of the surname Case. There were many, many descendants of this Case family. Most of these lines were in or around Windsor, Connecticut in the late 1600s and later. Undoubtedly some of them would be listed in Henry Stiles' book, whose title I don't have handy but is often referred to as "Stiles' Windsor." There were two volumes, published about 1904 I believe. You would want the one concerning genealogies of Windsor families. Who knows, you might find some clue. It sounds as if your Benajah Case Thomas may have been named for a Benajah Case. To Tina Smith: At least you are working with an uncommon name in the Thomas family, that will be easy to distinguish from others. Zella Amiee Thomas is probably not a name you'll run into, unless it's your own ancestor! On the other hand, my great grandfather has quite a common name and is Albert James Thomas, born in Cheddar, Somerset England, on 1 September 1866. He was christened on 7 October 1866 at St. Andrews Parish Church in Cheddar. His father was supposedly James Thomas, though that is only hearsay from Albert's daughter, Jennie Leonora Thomas, born on 22 October 1889 in Owasco, Cayuga Co., NY. I believe Albert James Thomas' mother's first name was Elizabeth, probbly with a surname of Thomas or Evans. My grandmother, Jennie, was the only child of Albert James Thomas and his wife, Louisa Maria Coombe, whom were married on 18 December 1888 in Owasco. Albert James Thomas immigrated to the United States in 1883 and was a farm laborer, according to the 1900 Owasco, NY Census. Three years later, Albert James Thomas died from "suffocation," as the result of too much to drink, so it is said. Another name in my Thomas family is Amery Thomas, born in Cheddar, England in 1801; and he married a woman with the first name of Anna, born in 1814, Cheddar. I believe they may be Albert James Thomas' grandparents. Since my grandmother, Jennie Thomas, was the only child of Albert James Thomas and Louisa Maria Coombe Thomas, and since the names are quite common, I have been unable to determine very much evidence about this maternal fami ly. Hi. My Name is Christine Thomas. I am currently living in Ballarat Victoria. Hello to the new members, Hopefully your emails will spark some interest and everyone will repost their lines. I haven't worked on my line very much this year, because I have been so busy with the kids in school. Now that summer is almost here, I plan to get back to my research a little. Here is a little info on my line. My grandmother Naomi Frances Beardsley is the daughter of Leon William Beardsley and Zella Amiee Thomas. Zella was born 1-28-1882 in Missouri and shortly after her birth the family moved to Los Angeles California. Zella is the daughter of Orion Theodore Thomas born 8-28-1846 in Defiance Ohio and Jennie Bird Higley born 9-19-1859 is Harrisburg PA. Orion's family moved to Indiana prior to the start of the Civil War. His first wife died, then he met Birdie (that is what everyone called her) in Ohio, in the 1880 census they were neighbors. Actually Orion lived both in Indiana and Ohio during that census, because he is listed with his father and children in Indiana, then again in Ohio as a boarder with another family. They married 4-20-1881 is St. Louis Missouri. I have 4 of Birdie's journals which gave me a lot of insight of the family. Orion is the son of Calvin Thomas born 10-26-1820 in Ohio and Naomi Murry Williams born 9-20-1823 in Ohio. I have met a 4th cousin on line that is related to Orion's brother Calvin L. Thomas, and lucky for me he had access to a Family Bible that was given to Benajah Case Thomas, who is the father of Calvin. This gave me a the info I need for Calvin's siblings. I am still however trying to find out who Benajah's parents are. Per census records it has Benajah being born in Massachusetts or Connecticut, I believe Connecticut is the more like place. I would love to find someone that shares this line. I have copied and pasted Benajah's Descendants for 5 generations, leading down the line to my grandmother. I have census records on almost of that are listed and would love to share. I am looking for any information on Catherine "Kate" Garrett Thomas. I was told a while back that she was illegitimate, but I don't remember from which source. I do know that she married a Mr. Henry Thompson. Henry was born in 1867 in Mt. Gilead, NC, and died May, 23, 1934, probably in Montgomery Co., NC. I have been to the courthouse in Montgomery Co. and could find no trace of Catherine. Catherine and Henry had a son by the name of George Henry Thompson.
