    2. In the 1891 census for Wedmore, Somerset was the following: on Battans Lane, George Evans, head , male, age 44, ag. lab.; born Wedmore, Somerset; Elizabeth, his wife, age 54, born Cheddar, Somerset. I believe this Elizabeth was a Thomas before she married George Evans. Does anyone know for sure? Thank you. Barbara

    1. [THOMAS] Charlotte THOMAS c1815 - 1846 UK
    2. DA & RR HURST
    3. Greetings List, I am seeking further help on the following person; Charlotte THOMAS. She was born c1815, not in Alderbury, Wiltshire. Her father may have been James THOMAS, mother unknown. Charlotte married Henry HURST in Alderbury, Wiltshire, 22 Feb 1830. The couple had 7 Children, of whom I have details. Charlotte died in 1846 aged 31, burial on 4 march 1846 in Alderbury, Wiltshire. One of the witnesses to Charlotte and Henry’s marriage was an Ephraim THOMAS. Quite an uncommon name, so I am hoping that any fellow researcher’s may recognise either Charlotte or Ephraim. I would really appreciate any leads. Kindest regards, David Hurst DA & RR Hurst, Korumburra, Vic. Australia. "Such is Life" --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 1. [THOMAS] An enjoyable morning...
    2. This morning, I hooked up with another Thomas descendant, Larry, who is the grandson of one of my grandfather's brothers. We met (at, of all places, the Dayton, OH airport) and made the short trip to Troy, Ohio, in Miami County to try and find the Thomas family cemetery. After a bit of a bobble, we found it. :) The cemetery, originally on land owned by Abraham Thomas (b. 1756 in Orange County, VA d. 5Apr1843 in Miami County, OH) is now maintained by the County Trustee and they seem to do a good job of it. The grass had obviously been mown recently and small flags placed at the grave sites of the various military veterans. Larry and I both got quite a few pictures of the area, but it seemed that most of the Thomases' stones were either too weathered to read or were missing. The ones that *I* had mainly wanted to see (and get pictures of) were Abraham and his wife and Michael (b. 1779 in Washing- ton County, PA d. 24May1818 in Miami County, OH) we were able to find. Abraham and his wife, Susanna's, stone is still in very good shape and I got quite a few pictures of it. Michael and Mary's stone has been broken and only Mary's death date and 'wife of Michael Thomas' is still visible on it. They both had brass/bronze markers by their graves that identify them as veterans, Abraham of the Revolutionary War, Michael of the War of 1812. Another Thomas that I was able to recognize (unfortunately, I wasn't very organized for this trip and didn't have a list of all of Abraham's children and who was buried where) was Mariah H. Dye, wife of Minor L. and, IIRC, sister of Abraham Thomas. I know this doesn't add a whole lot of new information to what I've already shared here, but I wanted to let people know that if they are interested in this line, the ceme- tery is easily accessible (once you get good directions :) ) and there's quite a bit there of interest. I will be checking out a cemetery in Delaware County, Indiana, where more Thomas descendants are buried in the next few days. If anyone is interested in copies of these pictures, I took them with a digital camera but won't be able to download them for a week or more (after I return home.) I would be happy to mail them out to anyone who would be interested in them. Tracey

    3. Bettye, Try locating the mother and father of your GRISSOM THOMAS with a search for a THOMAS man marrying a GRISSOM woman. It was common of the GRISSOM / GRESHAM / GRISHAM / "any which way you spell it" to give one or more children the maiden name of the mother or one of the grandmothers. There were only two THOMASes that married GRESHAMs in my index; and I am one of them. Samuel L. 2. >What is Germanna, or the Germanna colonies, mentioned in >recent posts? Well, I'll try to explain a bit. I've got my head full of stuff over the past 6 months or so, so don't yell at me if I get this wrong, okay? I'm doing it from memory. :) First, if you do a web search on 'Germanna colonies', you'll find quite a bit of information on them. There is a man named John Blankenbaker (I think) who has written hundreds of short articles about the history of the colonies. Long ago, in the mid- to late-1600's or early 1700's, a group of Germans were supposed to make the trip from Germany to the British Colonies. Somehow (due to mismanagement or downright fraud) they got stuck in England. A man ended up paying for these families to make the trip. In exchange, they were to work for him in his business ventures in the Colonies (mines??? I can't quite remember.) After a decade or two, he brought another group of Germans over. They all were basically from the same area in Germany (from around Stuttgart, I think) and they all lived in the same area in Virginia. There was lots of intermarrying going on so the families are pretty well intertwined. (My 6th great grandfather married a woman from a Germanna family, as did my 5th great grandfather.) In the mid-1700's, the exodus seemed to start with the families spreading out. There were a few of the families whose children headed up to Pennyslvania, in the Ten-Mile Creek area that I men- tioned before. I'm not sure what else you would want to know, but if you do a web search, you should find J. Blankenbaker's site and he has tons of information there. I'm also away from home right now and don't have a lot o f information with me. HTH Tracey

    3. Hello, I live in England and am researching my Thomas ancestors, I have been reading this list for a few months but this is the 1st time I have written in . I think the answer to your question is that when I knew where my family came from ,( Carmarthenshire Wales) I subscribed to the relevant UK county list .The people on these lists are usually very helpful and the listers can often help as some of them have a lot of local genealogical information.in addition to the name the are most interested in. I would suggest that if you want to find out about Wiltshire Thomases you could try the Wiltshire list [email protected] and for Risca at [email protected] you can of course find all the lists at http://lists.rootsweb.com/ under International then England or Wales or wherever you want. I apologise for suggesting lists in addition to this one, but I am subscribed to about seven of them. I hope this is of some help. Cheers . 1. [THOMAS] David & Abraham/Abram/A.M. Thomas
    2. My g-gf Abraham/Abram/A.M. THOMAS was b/Cambria Co., PA (as per marriage license) in November of 1860 That is all that I have documented of his family history. What is possible is.................. In the 1860 census of Cambria Co. PA, I find a David with wife Mary, and daughter Grace. In the 1880 census of Braddock, Allegheny Co., census, I find David, Mary, with children....Grace 21; Abram 19, James 17; Annie 11; MargreLL 9; Smilda 7; Nathanial 4; and a John ATTIC 22 listed as other. This COULD BE my family! In 1885 Abraham m/Rachel S. EBELING in Benwood, Marshall Co., WV. the marriage license shows that Abraham was living in Belmont Co., Ohio at the time of the marriage. (across the Ohio River from Marshall Co., WV). In the 1900s census and City Directories, I find his name listed as Abram and A.M. Does any of this ring any bells? Any assistance appreciated. Audrey

    1. [THOMAS] Red Roof and Black Roof
    2. Virginia A.
    3. Is there anyone out there that is familiar with these terms?? My mother referred to the two Thomas lines in Kentucky in this manner. However, I could not get her to go into any detail. My guess is that it might go back to Christopher Columbus Thomas and his cousin William Robert Thomas, but why? Any information appreciated! Virginia in Seattle
