    3. Marcia, I also have Thomas in CT. But I'm afraid that mine don't match up to yours. But your James and my DeWitt are only two years apart in age. Most of my info comes from census and court records, when DeWitt died. DeWitt A. Thomas B: 1820 CT D: 11/1/1870 Nebraska City, NE Wife: Louisa Pile B: ? WI D: ? Remarried to ? Farley in CT Children (with DeWitt) 1. Charles Victor Thomas B: 12/28/1863 Fremount County, Iowa D: 9/23/1947 Nebraska City, NE Wife: Hattie Ott 7/3/1887 B: 12/5/1870 D: 3/19/1954 Nebraska City, NE 2. Edward B; 1862 Iowa 3. Ella Imogene B: 1/16/1851 D: ? Husband: John M. Ellsworth (They resided in CT) 4. H. (Female) B:9/1869 NE D: ? (According to census, she died as a child) When DeWitt died, Ella sent a letter through her lawyer. Stating that she was DeWitt's daughter. And that her mother (now remarried) and her lived in Hartford CT. All the paperwork in Nebraska City, NE only listed the two boys. My husband is decended from Charles. I cannot seem to get any farther back than DeWitt in CT. It almost seems as if he just appeared there one day. >Subject: [THOMAS] THOMAS in CT >Date: Tue, 29 Jul 2003 09:57:43 -0500 >From: "Marcia Smith" <[email protected]> >To: [email protected] > >Dear 'Thomas clan'~ >I continue to enjoy the great flurry of THOMAS messages! >But--I haven't found my CT connection yet~ >so haven't connected to their THOMAS ancestors homeland. >Please- anyone recognize my James THOMAS >Searching James THOMAS, b.Abt 1822 in CT. >m.25 Jul 1841 Litchfield Co., CT > Spouse:Harriet EDGET / EDGITT >Children of James and Harriet: Ellen THOMAS, b.9 Apr 1844 in CT. >For years now, I have been unable to establish a CT connection for my >THOMAS >family. >I'm indebted to this treasured THOMAS site (Thanks Vickie!) for >noting James >THOMAS with wife Harriet and children in 1850 census Newtown, >Fairfield Co., >CT, which is located on Long Island Sound-- and my thoughts are that >they >would not have come over in the 1620's as my father believed. 3. I don't know whether John Thomas went to Indiana or not, he doesn't appear in Pike County, IN with Lewis. So, I really can't give you data on John as the info I had on him was based on John Thomas, husband of Elizabeth Poage (in Lucile's family history she wrote). I can tell you Lewis Thomas was married to Sarah/Sally Alexander (daughter of Isaac Alexander) on February 4th, 1809 in Mercer County, KY. He died on May 5, 1859 in Pike County, Indiana (I have not been able to confirm that as Pike County didn't keep records until 1871). They had 13 children (some of them in KY) which they raised in a log cabin near the small town of Alford, Indiana (I have a picture of the cabin). One of these children was John Alexander Thomas, born November 18, 1809 in KY. He married a Mary Griffith March 29, 1829 in Pike County, IN (I can verify for sure this piece of information as I have a copy of the marriage book page from the Pike County Court House). He died January 4, 1893 in Pike County, IN and is buried at the Alfred Cemetary in Alford, IN. Mary Griffith is a mystery, no parents names found, and no death date for her found. If any of this sounds familiar, please let me know. Thanks. LeeAnn -----Original Message----- From: Candy [mailto:[email protected]] I have a John Thomas in my family, who went from KY to IN. 1. [THOMAS] BRAGG Family Autograph Album including THOMAS Family members
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old Autograph Album belonging to Miss Maggie BRAGG of Lilly Chapel, Ohio. The book is dated by Maggie on December 25, 1889 probably a Christmas gift to her. Her handwriting leads me to believe she was probably about 12 years of age at the time. Included in the album is an undated report card for Maggie signed by her teacher W.H. LAIRD which appears to be an elementary school report. Also included in the album is an obit notice for Mary Ann TRACY BRAGG b. 24 April 1837 at London, Ohio; d. 4 October 1912 at Columbus, Ohio. Her parents are listed as John & Margaret TRACY, she was the eldest of 9 children. She married George W. BRAGG 13 Jan 1870 and had three children (two girls and one boy) and 6 grandchildren. Her home was in Delaware, Ohio for many years. There are many autographs in the album including the following family members: 1. J.N. TRACY of Big Plain, Ohio, no relationship identified 2. Alice TRACY of Fayette, Louisiana or Iowa, no relationship identified 3. William THOMAS, March 30, 1890 of Lilly Chapel, Ohio, cousin 4. I visited McClure Cemetary (sorry, didn't visit others, but will again in the next two months return and do more research) and took photos of what Thomas graves I could. I also have some history, depending on what line you are on. Email me if this sounds like it could be of interest to you. LeeAnn McNabb descendent of Sarah Ellen Thomas and Patrick McNabb (my ggg grandparents) Sarah Ellen Thomas was a descendent of Robert Poage (early American Colonist), Isaac Alexander (American Revolutionary War), and Lewis Thomas (early settler at Fort Harrodsburg, KY).

THOMAS in LaSalle County (1860 Census) then moving to Vermilion County, Illinois (Land Record dated 8 Sept 1869). Anyone recognize possible connection to any of this THOMAS family~ from 1860 Census: James Thomas, age 38, Farmer, birthyear Abt 1822 in CT wife, Harriet (Edget)Thomas, age 35, birthyear Abt 1825 in CT Ellen Thomas, age 17, b. 9 Apr 1844 in CT James Thomas, age 14/16, b. 1844/46 in CT Frank Thomas, age 11, b.Abt 1849 in CT Lewis Thomas, age 7, b.Abt 1853 in IL Emma Thomas, age 4 b. Abt 1856 in IL My family records also claim a connection to William Penn history, but I've been unable to prove the connection. From my long deceased father[so--heresay]: "THOMAS came to America 1620's and that he had a tract of land next to William Penn.". That's 200 years of CT hx unbeknown to me. I have still been unable to establish the connection. I would appreciate any comments~ -------------------- Marcia, here's something I do. Go to ancestry.com or rootsweb, get onto the "trees", choose "advanced search" and sort like this: [surname]thomas (don't use a given name), birth year 1822 then try +-2 years, +-5, +-10, or even +-20 and read any and everything that looks interesting, even duplicates. What you learn is likely just what towns people are having babies in about the time and place you need, and you also learn what parents are doing it. :) Also take a look at all the siblings of the ones you find, maybe more than one moved to the place/s you've found yours -- that gets interesting. PS Since she's born CT also, once you've done Thomas, do Edget also! Hey, you can even take a shot at plain sort-for-any Thomas who married Edget with no other options and see what you get. It's amazing how often siblings marry siblings, when contrasted to today. I've "wasted" enormous amounts of time doing this and taking notes -- and it works more often than I can tell you. Any clue is a CLUE, even when the clue is where NOT to look and who NOT to look at. Kaye in Texas __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo!
