I wanted to mention that I think 1836 was the year temporary US income tax was enacted, with the thought that "pardon" just might possibly reflect that it was taxes unpaid? That may also be the year that Social Security was enacted. Admittedly hazy at history, Kaye in Texas __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Is there anyone that has access to the prison records below maybe on a trip to one of the libraries? I cannot tell if these Thomas and Wilson folks are related to my line. I am not sure when they went to prison and when they got out, if they did get out. I have some missing family members and maybe they were locked up? I found out that one of my Thomas women divorced her husband when he went to prison. I had assumed he had died and now I know, you cannot assume. My husband is related to the John Thomas of New Haven, CT who married Tabitha. Apparently the family legend for his line is "from Cardiff, Wales" and they came over to USA because of religious problems. Read about the early Gilbert line as they came at the same time and it will give you some ideas as why they came to USA and the problems they had in England/Wales. Hi list! I'm trying to find more information on the ancestry and descendancy of a John Thomas who was born 04 Mar 1645 in New Haven, New Haven Co., CT - to unknown parents. He married Mary Blakeslee in 1677. Mary was born to Samuel Blakeslee and Hannah Potter on Nov 02, 1659 in Guilford, New Haven Co., CT. John Thomas and Mary Blakeslee (also spelled Blakesley) had 9 children: Hannah (b. 1678), Rebecca (b. 1680), Jeremiah (b.1684), Mary (b. 1687), Jonathan (b.1692), John (b. 1695), Samuel (b.1698, died young), Samuel (b. 1699) and Ebenezer (b. 1701). I should note that "my" John Thomas is not the John Thomas who married a woman named Tabitha, nor is he the son of this John Thomas, the John Thomas Jr. who married Lydia Parker. The are likely related, however I've yet to make a connection. . . both seemed to come out of either England or Wales, but I haven't been able to trace either line back any further than New Haven. My John Thomas died in 1709 in Woodbury, Litchfield County, Connecticut. Any info on this line would be greatly appreciated! I am attempting to put together a website with info on this line, it's available here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~banana/LifeHistory/Thomas/index.html Thanks! Carissa Thomas [email protected] please send attachments to: [email protected]

HI, I am looking for any information on the daughters of John THOMAS, particularly Lucy THOMAS OWIN; Martha THOMAS HOLLIMAN; Tabitha THOMAS and Elizabeth THOMAS HARRIS. According to his will, probated in Autauga County, AL he had 10 children. I descend from his son, John L. THOMAS and have lots of information on him and his descendants. Recently with help information has been found on two of the daughters, Mary THOMAS who married Henry B. JOHNSON, probably in Hancock County, GA and moved with her father and some of her siblings to Autauga Co. AL about 1818 and Eleanor THOMAS who married Thomas TOWNSEND in Hancock Co., GA, in 1815, came to Autauga Co. AL where Thomas TOWNSEND died. I have information on the children of Mary THOMAS JOHNSON and Eleanor THOMAS TOWNSEND. Daughters, Sarah and Nancy married brothers, Gray and Jarret LYNCH. Gray and Nancy moved to Bedford County, TN and Jarret and Sarah lived in Jasper Co. GA. I have lots of information on their descendants. In the estate papers it states that the other daughters of John THOMAS live out of the State of Alabama in 1846 (following heirs to wit JARRET LYNCH in right of his wife SARAH LUCY OWEN ELIZABETH HARRIS, GRAY LYNCH in right of his wife NANCY, ELNATHAN STEPHENS in right of his wife ELENOR, MARTHA HOLLAWAY & MARY JOHNSON who are over the age of twenty one years and the heirs of REBECCA THOMAS, dec'd, all of said heirs reside out of this State except Elnathan STEPHENS and his wife ELEANOR, MARY JOHNSON & MARTHA HOLLIMAN who lives in Pike County. " Publications was ordered in the MONTGOMERY ADVERTISER notifying the Non-resident heirs of the estate of JOHN THOMAS, lists heirs again. ) If anyone has any information on any of these people, I would be very grateful if you would share. I have a lot of THOMAS information to share in return. Thanks for reading this post. Irma J. Roy [email protected]

I am looking for the parents of Griffith Thomas, b. around 1739 in Chester Co., PA. He moved eventually what is now Haw River, NC in Alamance Co. I would like to hear from any descendants. Also I am looking for the Thomas family on my husband's side. His earliest known ancestor is Nicholas Thomas, b. in 1794 in Maryland; married Mary Ann Morris in Randolph Co., NC in 1812. I would like to hear from any of his descendants and would like to know if anyone knows Nicholas' brothers, sisters, or parents. Thanks. Mary Thomas

Jane, I think I've found the family: JW & Rebecca Thomas, 1880 census, located in Burton KS with several children: Harvey (1869 IL), J Benton (1872 IL), Clara (1874 IL), Charles (1876 IL). JW Thomas lists his birth state as OH, but his father was born in PA. My grand-mother, Cora Lee, was born approx 1889. According to Wichita census (1910), Rebecca was widowed by then. Is there a JW Thomas in yor PA Thomas family tree? How about your friend from ML? What about others on the list? > [Original Message] > From: Barbara Hilliard <[email protected]> > To: Jane Taylor <[email protected]> > Date: 8/4/2003 6:21:29 PM > Subject: Re: [THOMAS] Thomas family of Kansas > > I am not sure where they were before Kansas, but I'm thinking Ohio as that is the birthplace of Rebecca, Cora Lee's mother. I'm afraid none of these names ring a bell, because I don't have any other names! Regarding your friend from Medicine Lodge, I don't think any of my grandmother's family lived there because we would have had contact with them. We moved from ML in 1963, but my father's family has been in Attica since the town was settled and I know they would have known if any of Cora Lee's family settled in town. > > Thanks for the leads! I'll keep them in mind but I have a feeling they are not directly linked to my grandmother. Hi, I'm looking for the name of my great-grandfather whose surname was Thomas. I have some information on his wife and daughter: According to the 1910 census of Wichita Kansas, his widow -- Rebecca, 66 yo, born in Ohio, had 6 children -- was living with daughter (my grand-mother) Cora Lee, 21 yo, born in Kansas, occupation student. By 1912, Cora Lee Thomas had located to Freeport KS and married Alfred J Hilliard on September 25. They had two children, John Donald born in 1918 and Carlos Lee born in 1923. Cora and her husband died approximately 1926 and are buried in Attica Cemetery, Attica, Harper County, Kansas. Any information or leads on this branch of the Thomas family will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Barbara --- Barbara Hilliard --- [email protected]
