    3. My great grandfather's immigration papers (Anton Schoenberger) say that he arrived at the port of New York Sep 1893 from Bavaria. I have never found a passenger list or ship for him at Ellis Island, Ancestry, Castle Garden, or ISTG. Are there other sources available to me? David Schoenberger, North Carolina

They include ships to New York from 1892-1924 You should use Steve Morse's one-step search engine to search this set of records, at http://stevemorse.org/ There is a quick tutorial on how best to use the search engines at http://olivetreegenealogy.blogspot.com/ Click on "Oddities of Searching Ellis Island! What have you found? " Be very very careful to be creative in your ancestors surname spelling! Also, since you have a month and year, why not search using Steve's One steps for ships arriving that month? Both NARA & LDS have films with the New York passenger lists. You could search through microfilm (but you can also do this online) Ships are on the reels in order of date of arrival, so all you need to do is find the film number that has your arrival date on it. Then order it in to a nearby Family History Centre, or request a lookup from NARA. When you get the film, scroll through to find your date but if your ship isn't there, be sure to check more thoroughly on the film - the lists aren't always exactly in chronological order.
