Hello, SUBJECT: SHIP PARAGON - <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />UK>NYC 1838 <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> This request is for information relating to my Great Grandfather: HENRY SQUIRE FROST born April 7, 1826 in Yexam (Yacksam), near Norwich, England died June 5, 1895 at LaMotte, Jackson, Iowa. Exhaustive Internet research and search of LDS passenger lists has failed to find any reference to his emigration/immigration. Henry Squire Frost immigrated with his Mother and Step-Father in1838 when he was 12 years old. His biography states: the lad enjoyed the long ocean voyage from the moment the good ship "Paragon," under Capt. Cadiz, left her moorings at London until she dropped her anchor in New York harbor eight weeks later Family members traveling in 1838 with Henry Frost were: 1. Mother, Maria Ward [Frost] [Brand] born 1798 in Yacksam, England, died 1885 in Jersey City 2. Step-Father, Henry Brand born 1808 in England died in Jersey City 3. Brother, John Frost b 11 OCT 1817 in Yacksam is assumed to traveled with the family, although his biography indicates he immigrated at age 15 which would be 1832 (the same year their father Isaac Frost of Wian-Farthing, England died) 4. Brother, William Frost (younger) 5. Sister, Maria Frost (younger) NYC> NJ> IA Upon arrival, the family settled in Jersey City, New Jerseys where Mr. Brand (Henrys stepfather) was engaged in the gardening business. Henry worked on a farm nearby and later worked as a wagon maker, then raised oysters and manufactured green-house sash until moving to LaMotte, Jackson County, Iowa in about 1856. Henry Frost married twice: 1. Elenor Welsh married 1846 in Jersey City (11 children including my grandfather) and 2. Nancy Burroughs Griswold, married 17Aug 1880 in Jackson County Iowa (2 children) Henry Frosts Ship of Immigration I have found many Ships named Paragon including several sailing around 1838, but no records or mention of a Paragon sailing from England to the USA during that specific year and no clues to the emigration/immigration of Henry Frost. Any information is appreciated or tips for me to follow-up. I live in Alexandria, VA with access to resources around the National Capital if anyone has guidance for me to make use of these valuable resources.
