*new* for TheShipsList website http://www.theshipslist.com/ All the new and updated files and databases have been placed on their own page(s) Find them on the front page in between the big arrows --------------> <--------------- At the bottom of each of these pages I have placed links named " previous month " and " next month " so you are able to navigate back and forth between the monthly *new & updated* pages, as I only keep three months of *new* page links on the Home page. New for July 2006 is . . . o Reports: o Passenger Act, 1849 (as regards to North America) o Hints for Emigrants to North America (ca. 1847-1849) o Effects of Passengers dying on the Voyage ca. 1859 These were a great find, from the "Colonization Circular." I was really surprised to read of the legal rights of passengers, before, during and after the voyage, as early as 1849, along with details of "passenger contracts." The "Hints" are great as they include cautions to emigrants, plus advice on tools, length of passage, inward travel, colonial tax, as well as routes and rates via the ports of Quebec and New York. The "Effects" item was interesting, as the methods of handling the effects of the dead were so different, even in each of the Australian colonies ; British North American colonies ; and Jamaica. o Passengers: o Quebec - 16th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 6th August 1824 o Quebec - 17th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 15th August 1824 o Quebec - 18th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 20th August 1824 o Quebec - 19th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 29th August 1824 o Quebec - 20th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 4th September 1824 o Quebec - 21st trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 12th September 1824 o Quebec - 22nd trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 18th September 1824 o Quebec - 23rd trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 26th September 1824 o Quebec - 24th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 2nd October 1824 o Quebec - 25th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 10th October 1824 o Quebec - 26th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 17th October 1824 o Quebec - 27th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 24th October 1824 o Quebec - 28th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 31st October 1824 The last 13 lists for steamboat Quebec for 1824. Once again some interesting lists. Although most of the settlers had arrived earlier, there were still small groups arriving at Quebec into October. On September 12th, this entry really surprised me . . . 53 T. Kenrik ? (Kendrick) x x -/10/- Emigrant Society to pay . . . I had no idea that there was an organized "Emigrant Society" in Quebec in 1824. I often see "Dr. Mountain to pay," as he assisted quite a few with steamboat passage, especially families or women (widows?) with children. This was Bishop Mountain, later Archdeacon Mountain. I've seen initials such as G., J., G.J. and J.J. so I don't know how many "Mountains" there were assisting people although I tend to think he was George . . . I've also seen Mrs. and children, so he wasn't RC. Into August, there were still a lot of American tourists, from as far away as South Carolina, Georgia and Louisiana. Interesting sounding people too . . 5 Mr. de Wallinstein x x 2/10/- 2/10/- Willingstein / Watterstein, Secretary of Legation from the Emperor of Russia, from Washington. . . he was mentioned 3 times in either the newspapers or steamboat, with 3 different spellings.
