Becky, More information is being gathered regarding emigration from the Lippe area of Germany - Emigration from Lippe to the USA http://www.lippe-auswanderer.de/datenbank-eng.htm Emigrant ships: http://www.lippe-auswanderer.de/htm/vorwort-eng.htm Your gggGrandfather is listed as immigrating in May of 1858, age 20 years old, with destination of U.S.A.: August Bollhöfer * 1838 (v) Silixen (?)(from Silixen in Lippe / Silikessen; Nordrhein-Westfalen,Deutchland) Herkunft: Silixen Nr. 16 Lebensphasen: 1858 (g) als Schuhmachergeselle 05.1858 Auswanderung in die, USA Quellen: Verdenhalven /XI 1492 (data compiled by Dietmar Willer) He is referenced in this book: (Immigration before 1877) Verdenhalven, Fritz: Die Auswanderer aus dem Fürstentum Lippe (bis 1877). Nach ungedruckten und gedruckten Quellen, Bielefeld 1980. Hopefully someone on the list has the book and can do a look up for you or you might want to post an inquiry at this message board - Boards > Localities > Central Europe > Germany > Nordrhein-Nordrhein Westfalen http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.ceeurope.germany.Nordrhein-20-Westfalen.general Most likely the book is a compilation of passenger manifests, documents and newspaper accounts regarding people leaving the Lippe area for other countries. Newspapers are vital if ship manifests were destroyed by wars or some natural disasters. Try his surname in the search engines at www.theshipslist or www.olivetreegenealogy There are also instructions on how to locate passenger lists through the Family History Library or from The National Archives at those web-sites with other links to help you. Even though he's listed as leaving in May 1858, you may want to give a couple of months leaway in discovering his passenger manifest arrival information. Check with your local reference librarian to see if they can obtain the book for you or call local public schools or universities with a German language department. Am sure they'd be willing to help. Good luck!
