That is simply German for Steamship. I wish you had included his age, because I think I found him on Ellis Island . . . . First Name: Jakob Last Name: Zyamerntowicz Ethnicity: Austrian Last Place of Residence: Sreps (<-- not sure if that is correctly transcribed either) Date of Arrival: Jul 24, 1901 Age at Arrival: 14y Gender: M Marital Status: S Ship of Travel: Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse Port of Departure: Bremen Manifest Line Number: 0030 Looking at the scanned manifest, the name is really written Zygmuntowicz so it had been mistranscribed. Jakob was listed as a Slovak from Hungary, destined to Snow Shoe (Pennsylvania ?) to his sister. The North German Lloyd ship Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse, departed from Bremen July 16th 1901. The information found on naturalization papers for those who emigrated to the US prior to 1906 can often be in error (these things were completed for memory) because at that time it wasn't neccessary to prove the details in order to naturalize. If that isn't him, then go here to Steve Morse's one-step pages for Ellis Island and experiment a little. http://www.stevemorse.org/ Sue -- TheShipsList Website http://www.theshipslist.com/
