    3. Hello, Do you have a list of passengers on the SS Minnedosa ( or S.S. Minedosa) arriving in Quebec on Sept. 21, 1923? My mother said she arrived on it from Barnardos Home and we would appreciate any information we can find. Name: Cecile Louise Martin Born: July 11, 1905 Thank you, Wayne Hagadorn

The records before 1925 are not indexed. To find a passenger you need to know an exact date of arrival. In cooperation with the National Archives of Canada, the Pier 21 Society in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has input the information from passenger list indexes for the years 1925- 1935 into an online database. A search engine for the online 1925-1935 NAC index can be found at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/search_shipscanada.shtml Between 1869 and the early 1930s, over 100,000 children were sent to Canada from Great Britain during the child emigration movement NAC (National Archives of Canada) has indexed the names of these Home Children found in passenger lists at NAC, and there is a searchable database at http://www.archives.ca/02/020110_e.html Be forewarned though that not all years have been completed, so a negative result does not mean your ancestor isn't there. As NAC completes the indexing, you may find the name you want. If you find a name of interest, you can contact Barnardo's for the records. They can be reached at aftercare@barnardos.org.uk I recently sent a request to Barnardos for an ancestor and was thrilled with the amount of info they sent from his files - including pictures of him on entry and on leaving for Canada. To me it was well worth the price. And of course you can order the microfilm to view the passenger list for yourself.. Have you visited Marj Kholi's "Young Immigrants to Canada" website? http://www.ist.uwaterloo.ca/~marj/genealogy/homeadd.html http://www.ist.uwaterloo.ca/~marj/genealogy/children/Organiz ations/societies.html http://www.ist.uwaterloo.ca/~marj/genealogy/children/Organiz ations/barnardo.html See also the link to "Barnardo After Care" on Marj's website. 3. Hello Wayne, I know you have been receiving responses with all kinds of good information, so I will give you some more. This shows the route the Canadian Pacific ship MINNEDOSA was sailing in 1923 Ship Name Departure Information Arrival Information MINNEDOSA Antwerp, Belgium / Southampton, England / Cherbourg, France Quebec, Que. / Montreal, Que. 1923-09-22 (CPSSC) Canadian Pacific Steamships, Ltd. There are no passenger lists in the form of the "big-sheet" manifest which we are all used to, rather, for the period 1919-1924 there were single manifest sheets for each passenger called Form 30A http://www.theshipslist.com/Research/canadarecords.htm#1924 As your Mum was a Home Child, there may be other lists of the children also. I note that Lorine has pointed you toward Marj Kohli's "Young Immigrants to Canada" website. Form 30A records are ALL ports for the whole period 1919-1924 and are in the form of a single manifest sheet for each passenger. The reels will include all years mixed in together, but they are NOT in strict alphabetical order, so make sure you scroll right through until you find who you are searching. As Form 30A reels contain ALL Canadian arrivals 1919 to 1924, they will also include those who arrived via a US port, but stated their intention to proceed directly to Canada.
