Nancie Johnson <nurciuoli@aol.com> mentioned that her father may have had a certificate for crossing the equator; he was with the Navy group VF-17. I have a book about VF-17; The Jolly Rogers, by Tom Blackburn, Pocket Books, 1989. The carrier that the group was on, before being transferred directly to the Solomon Islands was the U.S.S.
